Help....how do I put him outside?

Hi guys

Looking for some help! This is my situation....I have a male staffy who is nearly 2 yrs. My Boyfriend and I got him together and he has been ruined ever since! He's allowed on the couch ( on his own blanket ) and has the run of the house when we are out. He also has his own dog door so he can get out into the garden.

As it stands, it is looking likely that my boyfriend and I are splitting up and I will be moving back to my Dads. I will be taking the dog with me but he will only be allowed in the house when I'm home. When I'm out he will have to go outside in a kennel (and the rest of the garden).

I really need some advice on how to handle this as he isnt used to this at all and I dont want him to feel that he is being punished.

Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated.

I would suggest making sure that he has things to amuse himself with if he is going to be left alone. Gets lots of different types of chewies and squeaky toys.

If you give him a kong with some peanut butter inside just before you leave it will divert his attention and he will feel rewarded instead of punished.

Doggie daycare is also another great option. It can get costly, but consider sending him once a week if that is all you can afford. Trips to new places with new smells and experiences go a long way to improving your dogs overall well being.

I am sure you will just need to give him a lot of love when your at home. And Invest in something to keep him warm

Make sure there is lots of shade and fresh water for him in the garden, and check for his litter regularly
