As someone who will be getting their very first sighthound this Winter, I'm afraid I don't know a lot about lure coursing either. In fact, I'm planning to go watch lure coursing for the first time in November. The breed I'm getting is a Silken Windhound, so what I have found is that it's difficult to find lure coursing events open to rare (non-AKC) breeds or sighthound-mixes. Any of these allow Salukis since they are an AKC breed though:

I *think* some clubs do have fun runs where all dogs are able to run, but I'm not sure how you find out about them. Let me know if you find helpful information, and I'll post anything I find here too;) If your Pharaoh mix looks enough like a purebred Pharaoh Hound, you may be able to apply to the AKC for an ILP # as long as she's spayed. Then she could enter AKC events like your future Saluki. Some lure coursing events do have a senior class for hounds 7 years or older.

Good luck!

There are loads of lure coursing clubs in the UK and we have simulated coursing at many game fairs and Lurcher and Terrier shows. I hope you can find something where you are, its great fun and wonderful to see these breeds doing what they do best.
Dawn.

well, i'm afraid she doesn't look much like a purebred, she is a ph shepherd chow mix. her hair is longer than a pharaoh hound and shorter than a shepherd's. she isn't as tall as a ph, and has black stops on her tounge from the chow.

:applaud:Congradulations! your first sight hound! i hope that will be said to me someday. good luck with your silken windhound, they look so unique. hopefully it will be just a matter of time before they become akc.:D

Well, I've had to delay getting my puppy due to some family medical issues.... I'll resume my search in early 2007 though. The Silken Windhound studbook was closed in 2000, so they will be eligible for the AKC in 2010 :)
