I love all dogs. But I have a puppy st bernard does anyone out there have one as well. Its all very well being told that as puppies they require very little exercise but a 5min walk turns into an hour long as I have so many people stop me to talk to misty moo moo (how sad):)

Hi and Welcome to the Dog Forum. I was given a St Bernard years ago named Greta. She barked too much being tied, owned by my childrens docter. She was a super girl, so friendly, good with horses, kids, cats, just a perfect dog. We had to keep buckets of water everywhere for her as she drank alot. They are wonderful tempered dogs, at least I have never run into a bad one yet. Send pics please.

Yep I know exactly what you mean. We are yet to have a walk without someone coming up and chatting to us about Sy. Usual comment is 'OOoo hes a lovely husky:rolleyes:'

Would love to see some piccies of her, and just becareful about the amount of exercise, those large breed puppies only need a 5 min walk for every month, or you risk them having arthritis or HD when they grow up. Their bones and joints are not fully fused until 1 yr old and any great exursion on them risks the above mentioned conditions.:D

I used to baby sit for people who had a SB. She laid under the kitchen table and "woofed" constantly, they never corrected her because they wanted her as a watch dog, (she wasn't woofing at anything, just to hear herself I think!) She wouldn't let anyone other than the family in the kitchen, and they kept a folding alumunium chair in the doorway, if she started to leave the kitchen i was supposed to fold and unfold rapidly, cause it scared her and made her stay in the kitchen. That was my first impressiong of a SB
