Though contests can be a lot of fun and the winner could carry a sig and an avatar made by one of the members being the dotm (dog of the month)
I think members may feel slighted if not nominated or mentioned so the dogs seem to just be a better idea.
On the horse forum I belonged to the HOTM had entries listed ( a friend and I ran it for a while...yuck!) I thought that once entered that was enough and friend thought that you needed to re enter every month. That being said it was kind of fun.
Everyone would post a pic from the 1-15 of the month and voting would take place the 16-20. The rest of the month was used for the sig maker to make a sig to use. The sig would always say HOTM of whatever month.
