So I've been calling my dog a "jack russell - mini schnauzer mix" but after looking at all the other jrt/mini schnauzer mixes, he sure looks like he's in a league of his own! Anybody have an idea what he might be a mix of? The shelter called him a wire fox terrier and then changed his description to jrt because he was high energy. I'm puzzled! but love him all the same. :)

Hi Normsmom,
Is he full grown? Does he like to dig? Chase squirrels?
Looking at him I could believe the JRT/Schnauzer, but I have never seen any pics of mixes.
He looks like he is a barrel of laughs!

If he is a jrt and mini schnauzer, I know he is high energy! Is he a good fetcher? My schnauzer poodle mix will fetch a tennis ball until she nearly collapses. I wish I had that kind of energy! You'll need to wear him out somehow. I'd suggest getting a Chuck-it - LOADS of fun, and saves your arm. Oh yeah, he (Norm?) is really cute!!!

Yes, he is definitely a barrel of energy! He's 2 1/2 years and won't be growing any more. We play fetch as soon as I come home... well, more like hide and seek. He fetches his toy, comes up to me, I get up and chase him around the house or yard till he tires ME out! Although, he's not a very good catcher; if I throw a ball, chances are he won't catch it- once it rolls, he'll pick it up and the hide and seek/chase me game is on. He's probably the most intelligent dog I've ever had. Some of the things he does really amaze me. He doesn't care for male dogs, however, he usually doesn't mind the ladies. He loves people, especially, (dare I say it??) older women. I think perhaps his first owner was an older woman and he might have been too active for her. The part I really enjoy is that I have the best of both worlds with him, we can run around, go for walks, and play, but when mom wants to relax, he is right there watching tv and snuggling with me.
Anyway, thank you all for your lovely replies! I know it doesn't matter what he is, but I was just curious so I can learn more about his breeds.

Well sometimes the papers don't mean anything. That is also true of purebred dogs. AKC registration papers are falsified a LOT.

Scottie or Dachshund x or both?
A Dottie?....LOL
Genetic meandering in my mind
Scotties strong ear muscle and cartiledge, forcing the bigger ear leathers of the Dachs to semi stand.
Wire hair in both breeds, smooth in Dachs
Black in Scottie, Dachs sometimes have white mrkings(chest)
I really don't know, but what makes me also think the above is..
dem cute little legs, Scottie hair on Dachs legs
Now if he has a longer body.....the possibilities are endless?
My final answer?
A Wire Haired Cuteness ...lol
