I'm guessing their answer is the same as training every other breed. You have to bend over more though.;)

Personally I don't train my Pomeranians any differentally than I do the bigger breeds. So go for it!

Also, remember that Pomeranians think they are big dogs and may seem to bark alot when meeting a new animal. Just correct the behavior everytime she/he barks.
Poms are very loving poochs. I have never had a problem socializing my Poms with other animals. They love cats, dogs and smalll animals. Hope this helps!

What are you doing to teach her sit? There are multiple ways to train sit. Some work better for some dogs and some work better for some people.

Get your dog used to the brush and comb. Saves a whole load of hassle later on. (Speaking as one who has never previousy owned a fluffy dog...)

The way I did it was on my lap, or on a towel on the table (outside), and plenty of treats. Freddy is fine and quite enjoys his brushing sessions, but Henry doesn't like it much. I use a double-sided brush - bristle on one, pin on the other - and a slicker brush, especially as Henry is losing his baby coat. I find Freddy's coat is more like hair than fluff, so it's easier to maintain.

I was pleasantly surprised though; I thought Poms would be more high maintenance than they are. Once a week (or less) for Freddy, more often for Henry (to get rid of the fluff). Obviously, if they're particularly mucky then more often.

I don't do nails though. I'm frightened of cutting too much so road exercise is a must.

PS. Never had any mats apart from the very soft hair at the side of Freddy's head, so I check that every day.

I would say they are okay to train. These are my first poms. Freddy came in November 2006 and we got Henry in May 2007. I'd had bull terriers years before but circumstances prevented us from wanting/getting a dog. Maybe they just seem easy compared to bull terriers!! Lead training was a doddle for both dogs. When we go out to the park they are both off their leads, although Freddy is a little easier to recall than Henry and is more obedient. Henry is more friendly than Freddy with people and dogs. Freddy doesn't like very young children much - more to do from experience with my neighbour's kids than anything else.

Watch out for slipping kneecaps in poms. Freddy's got an operation on his knee this week. Apart from sometimes having runny eyes (and the kneecap thing) no major health problems so far.

Always make sure to make your Pom feel like they are 100% part of your family! When I first got my little girl I would sit and talk gently to her for hours. Slowing petting her, holding her, walking her around. I took her everywhere to meet everything possible. Any time something odd happened I would smile at her and say its okay, show that I was happy and okay.

And guess what? She NEVER barks. Not even once, I'd never heard her bark! No need to! She's been socialized. Socializing is the number one thing you need to do with a toy dog; otherwise you are that obnoxious neighbor with the ankle biter barking dog! And who wants that kind of reputation?

Training sit, stay (wait), and come are HUGE!! It has saved my dogs life! One day she got free of her collar and started to wander out into the parking lot! I screamed wait! then come! and because of that she missed a car from hitting her!

Practice one command a day for 10mins at a time then take a break. Play with them praise them, then try again!

Training is more fun than it seems. You bond with your puppy and they also have a new appreciation for you as well. Getting toys to be submissive is a chore at first, but once you do it, they are a wonder to own!

My boyfriend likes to call them "pom tears." They looks like they've been crying! Pomeranians have over active tear ducks that make those runny marks on their faces. It's perfectly normal; be sure to keep up your grooming and clean under their eyes daily.
