Can users of these forums delete their accounts/profiles whenever they want, if they no longer want to be a member of DogForum.org? If so, how do they do this?

I don't believe so. Sorry.

I would assume that you should be able to pm a mod. and ask for it to be removed but other than that I don't see any way to do it yourself.

I'm not sure, but why would anyone want to do that? :D

Forum Directors can ban an account, closing it so that it can't logon to the forum, but deleting accounts is an admin function. Send a request to the moderating staff, if you want your account deleted.

Admins have so for not honored any requests to delete accounts.
Sometimes people will accidentally create two accounts and in those cases we will check in with the member and "ban" the unused account as a courtesy.
But the only way to get your account removed is to get banned, which is not a good thing. :)

Why is that anyway?

I can delete my you tube account... my hotmail account... but not my DF account.

It's just not done on any forums. First people could constantly delete themselves to a point erasing the fact they previously existed and make a new account over and over again. 2nd it's just too hard on the programming and for people to keep track of who is posting. Giving users that level of control of the forum and then having accounts being deleted and recreated is going to wreak havoc. I was on a forum that decided to allow name changes. It was insane after 2months. We had to setup a thread for everyone to post their original name and then each time they changed it so we knew who was who. Most of the time not even admins will honor a request to delete an account because of the effort involved. I don't know of a forum where an admin will do it for you. The usual response is just stop using the account. Which comes to 3: there is no reason you should need the account deleted. If you no longer want to use a particular forum just leave. If you accidentally made a bad account just do not use it. At most request a ban of a particular account but again there is no great reason to do it.

The only time I've seen a ban/delete requested and fulfilled was when someone else got ahold of the person's account to post under their name and for some reason changing the password to lock them out of the account wouldn't work. I think they also had the email address the password was sent to so it became easier for the original owner of the account to create a new username with a different email email and have the lost account banned so the person who stole it could no longer post. Otherwise I have never seen a mod or admin grant a request for banning or deletion of an account unless the person did something to deserve it anyway.

I've been on a couple of forums where the admins would delete accounts for you *shrug*

You tube does it also... *shrug shrug*

Meh. Good points tho' I can see where it could cause... difficulty.

We do not delete accounts for several reasons one being it deletes posts and threads making them redundant and not readable.

Just stop using your account if you do not want to post anymore.

Exactly. By deleting accounts and all of the posts from those accounts, particularly from active members, many threads will have gaping holes in them. The purpose of the forum is not only to provide help to people who are currently looking for it but also to help out members who come later and can benefit from previous discussions. Thing of a thread like -

Post 1 - Please help me with ______
Post 2 - The answer to your question is _____
Post 3 - Thanks! That's just what I needed.

Imagine the member who posted post 2 asks for and gets their account deleted. The thread loses all value to future members with the same problem.

As was stated above, if you no longer want to come here, simply don't log in. We, of course, hope that's not the case, but that's the proper way to handle it if it is.

I have been on another dog forum and asked that my account be deleted... I decided it was not a forum for me and wanted no one to access my account. Too easy to hack and isps are a dead give away.:D anyway the owner of the forum did delete and told me that my posts would show up as a guest. a Horse forum I used to belong to also always for the person to delete their own account. The posts will still show up but the person can no longer sign up or post.
