“Forum Director”?
Forum Directors are an essential new addition to DogForum.org. At this time, the Forum Directors will work with the Community Director and admin to monitor the day to day activities of the site and will have a hand in determining the direction the site will grow in the future.
Although we are only looking for one exceptional individual to fill the opening at this time, we will add more Forum Directors as the site continues to grow and thrive. Each Forum Director will be responsible for management of one or more areas of the site.
Your role in the process:
We need your help to decide on a list of quality members to consider for this role.
Before you make your nomination(s), please read the following to ensure the person you nominate is right for the job
What it takes to be a Forum Director:
- Excellent written communication skills
- Great people skills
- A helping demeanor
- A lifelong passion for everything related to dogs
- Expertise in a wide variety of areas covered by the individual forums on this site
- Perspective, vision, character
- An active presence on the DogForum.org forum (ideally 5+ days per week)
- Patience and persistence
- A thick skin
- Dedication to the site and the love of dogs
- Proactive yet cautious approach
The role of the Forum Director
- To ensure visitors and members have the best experience possible at
DogForum.org
- To ensure DogForum.org contains high quality, helpful information
- To uphold the rules/TOS/values of the community
- To stimulate participation and growth
- To be a staple within the community through routine and consistent presence - To maintain the upkeep and appearance of DogForum.org
- Work with the Community Director and admin on a variety of projects
Pay (or lack thereof)
Officially this is a volunteer (no pay) position. However the new Director will receive:
- A great opportunity to guide elements of a rapidly growing dog enthusiast community
- Other small perks over the course of time
Who can be nominated?
- Any member may be nominated
- We encourage people to nominate themselves if they feel they meet the qualifications
How to submit your nominations
- Please submit your nominations VIA PM to me with the title of "Director Nominations"
What to include
1) Who you would like to nominate
2) Why you feel that they are right for the job
Timing
- Request for nominations will end one week from today (Oct. 14, 2007)
- Within one week from that point, the new Forum Director will be chosen (Oct 21, 2007)
We thank everyone in advance for their interest in being a Forum Director. The size and growth of the site require the addition of only one Forum Director at this time. Please do not take offense in any way if you are not selected. This position will be extremely demanding but ultimately very rewarding to the successful candidate. We will definitely be adding more Forum Directors in the future, so there will be more opportunities to take a leadership role in this forum.

A quick question about this; Is there an age limit on the person who you nominate?

That's pretty neat. I've always wondered how active forums chose their moderators/directors.

We choose them via nominations as this is fair and equal to all members interested in the position or members that are interested in nominating a member they see as a leader and a stand out. :)
Most forums that I have been a part of do their own choosing and members can not participate.
I think our way of nominations is a more balanced and fair approach.

I was just wondering, after you get all of these nominations, how do you choose which one will be the next forum director?

This is very smart thinking to let the members help in nominations rather than same people choosing their picks.
We know who is online, helpful, smart, kind all those good things, ones who participate in all things going on. Members who choose are the smartest way to find the best for the board or forum.
I agree. Letting us have a pick at the nominations is a wonderful idea.

They are read over by our Community Director Taeric who will then put forth the best ones for review with the Forum Directors. We will take a week to discuss and then the ultimate discision rests with Admin and Taeric. :)
Just a note, be as articulate as you can be, the more you can write and tell us why you or your nomination would be our best choice the better. :) Try not to make it short.
Will those who nominate someone be anonymous? And what if someone does not wish to be Forum Director (I know.. silly question, Lol!!).. can they refuse?

:DNope they can't refuse. Once you're drafted you're hooked!:D JK
Even though it's a new concept to me, I'm pretty sure that if I were thinking of nominating someone; the first thing I'd do is run it by them.
It would save time for the administrators if they didn't have to take the time to read nominations of those who aren't interested or couldn't accept for one reason or another.
But that's just me. Always trying to keep things as uncomplicated as possible!;)

Thats a nice way to chose a new mod.
I must admit not being a mod on a forum is like a breath of fresh air. The mod always seems to get picked on lol. So you do need thick skin or eventually u'll grow it, I know I did . But it also helped me be stronger off the board and irl situ.
I'll have to have a read threw some of the members I think would be good, before I commit to a nomination. Being as I'm still very new here.

All nominations are kept confidential, no one will know who nominated who.
If someone gets nominated and does not wan the position if picked then they can refuse it>

This seems like a good fair way to decide things. I will have a read of the forums over the next couple of days and will let you know who I think before the closing date.

I submitted my nomination and I did run it past the member first to make sure they would not object.
I have to say there are many members that I feel would be well qualified in many areas of becoming a director but my choice I believe is the best of the best.
Good luck to all the nominees. We have great members so you know we will have another great director

For now send nominations to myself. I have the go ahead from admin to post the nominations request and it will only get confusing if they are sent to more then one Director. I am forwarding ALL to Taeric who will then review them at his leisure along with the Directors. Thanks.:)

I like this method, where members are allowed to nominate. Alot of forum admins choose people to be directors/moderators based on their beliefs, won't consider somebody who believes in using *insert method/tool here* because it's not what they believe. Glad this forum isn't like that :)
Good luck to everybody who gets nominated!

You can nominate more then one person but at this time only one more Director will be chosen.
You are not really voting you are writting the reasons why this person would be a good director, what makes them a good leader and the other things outlined in the orginal post. Please use the orginal post as a guide for your nomination. As stated before short and sweet is not what we are looking for we are looking for a well written nomination that helps decide the reason we should pick that person. Writing " I nomiate this person because they are nice " is not a nomination and will not be considered. :)
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a question...and I mean this in the nicest way possible.
Isn't it better to have a short and well written writing, better than having a long writing that doesn't mean anything? It being too long, to begging..too going over the same things..?
I'm not stating that ALL are like this.. but I personally think that bigger isn't always better.
Good things come in small packages.

Good point, Ali! I was wondering the same thing, as I am really horrible at writing really long stories that are really good at the same time. :p

Thanks!

Well the point is not to write a whole lot just to make it as long as possible.... :D
Put it this way: if you look at the list of things where it says "What it takes to be a Forum Director" and think about whether the person you are thinking of nominating fits in with that list, maybe say why or give an example. It does not have to be each and every one, but like Doberman's said, if all it says is "so-and-so is nice and helpful" then that is not much to go on.

I've been thinking and thinking about who I should nominate.
Personally, I wouldn't mind the job myself as I've got nothing else to do. ;) However, I can think of a few people who are more worthy of the nomination.
I better make up my mind before Sunday!

You need not ask the person, you can but it is not necassary. :) All nominations are reviewed and if the person who is chosen does not want the position then the can refuse and will will go with our next choice.
