View Full Version : New puppy and older dog
just got my new 6week old puppy yesterday and my 3yr old dog dosnt know wot to make of her, i havnt let them be together because the older one keeps sniffing her and being very jumpy, she keeps rubbing herself all over the pup, will they get on eventually? its like rying to keep 2 kids apart, had a first good nights sleep though so cant complain.

yes they will get on eventually, i think that from the very first minute u should put both dogs together and stand near them incase they start fighting, or hold the 3 yr old dog a little bit to stop it from jumping or something but dont hold it to firm and let the pup just do its own thing, but as i said stay near them to make sure they dont fight or anything

Try putting your older dog on the leash so you are in controll but dont keep them apart as this will lead to more problems even take them for a little stroll . If you have a dog cage put the little one in there so the older dog can sniff and get used to the smell and used to the pup jumping up . The cage will also give both dogs a bit of security in there own way .

i agree with Nancy, crates are brilliant for his sort of thing, although IMO i think 6 weeks is FAR too young to let a pup go to his new home. Although if anybody has a vast knowledge of the breed then i have no qualms.
