Hey guys, a friend of mine got a 10 month old Australian Cattle Dog from a lady that was moving out of state.
They had planned on keeping him but he has bitten their 2 year old twice, once resulting in stitches. I met him tonight and he is a VERY sweet dog, VERY good with adults. Her daughter wasn't with her so I wasn't able to see how he is around her. They want to find him a new home ASAP.

He's a very good dog, she just can't take the risk with her daughter. She also watches 2 other toddlers Monday-Friday during the day.
I was able to get him to listen to me within minutes so he will be a very smart dog with some training.

If you read the post, you will see that he's bitten the child twice. He's also growled/barked at the other children. We'd prefer that he doesn't go to a home with kids, mostly small kids.

Unfortunately, the ACD rescue that I contacted basically said that he should be put to sleep. :( I don't know what to do now. :(

Only because he isn't good with kids? They don't seem very optimistic, do they?

Yep. :(
If that's what I went by when I got Simba, he would be dead today. 10 years later, he's my heart dog and I'm so glad we gave him a chance.

Could you keep him?!.
We really cannot afford to. :( I really wish I could though. I see a lot of potential in him.

In a sence I can understand them..
In another I can not..
Ex if he's intact and he would end up in a bad place they might breed on him and possibly continue his childaggression. Or if he ends up at the wrong place he might have an owner that still subject him to children and are not being carefull enough and there will be more accidents and bad headlines.
On the other hand, WE know YOU (they prolly didnt) so we know that you will be very picky on where he ends up and that is making the all difference in the world. They prolly just don't want to risk anything due to all the BSL going around out there.
He looks like a cute dog so good luck in finding him a forever home!

That is Sad! I thought rescues where there for the Well being of dogs.. :( But, I guess if they are pretty full, taking on a child Aggressive dog is a bad idea.. :(
I wish I could help

I would love to take him since I know that RA is going to maintain her energy level for a long time and as the chow's grow they are going to slow down. I think that another ACD would be a great companion for RA BUT I have a 6yr old and even if you didn't state that he could not go to a home with kids I still wouldn't take him because right now I don't have the time to properly train a child agressive dog. I hope you find a great home for him he looks like such a sweetie pie!

Sorry if this has already been mentioned somewhere, but what was the severity and circumstances of the bites? Did the bites break the skin? Was a trigger identified?
Whoops, I now see one bite resulted in stitches - this does make it a more difficult dog to rehome.
