A sad but beautiful poem

[Charles]

You entered my life
With a bounce and a yelp
Two soulful eyes
Sent to comfort and help

A bound and a gallop
So strong and so proud
A giant supreme
You stood out in a crowd

We had an attachment
No one could know
Not just a pet
You made my heart glow

How did you know
When I felt unwell
Resting your head on my knee
You could tell

Never complaining
Strong and secure
My shadow companion
Loyal to the core

Our time together
Will stay in my heart
Sweet memories with me
Though we're apart

I ache for my friend
Who now is no more
He left us to soon
Through deaths lonely door

There's a hole in my heart
Where a dog used to be
Forever remembered
But no more to see

Now I Know why
You're called mans best friend
A truer companion
No one could send

I know that you loved me
And you know I loved you
The pain it will fade
But the memories stay true

I thank God I knew you
I am in your debt
My constant companion
And treasured friend "Jet"
