Yikes! and Whoops too!
Iowa Hunter Shot By His Dogs (http://wcco.com/local/hunter.shot.dog.2.414174.html)
Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources say 37-year-old James Harris was pheasant hunting with a group about three miles north of Grinnell when the accident happened.
Officials say the group had shot a bird and when Harris went to retrieve it, he put his gun on the ground and crossed a fence. As he crossed the fence, hunting dogs stepped on his gun causing it to fire.

Why in the heck was he retrieving the bird. That's the dogs job!
That story doesn't add up. No hunter in his right mind would lean a loaded gun up against a fence, much less do it with dogs around.
Hope all he got was a few pieces of birdshot and not the full barrel or he could lose his leg!:(

What an odd story...I really do wonder why he was getting the bird, when thats what the dogs will be trained for. Hmmm...
Poor guy though.

lol, the dog is doing the shooting and the hunter is fetching the bird. I think our hunter is a little confused!

It is odd but think about it setting down his gun against a fence, dogs running after step on it BANG BANG. Thank Gosh only his leg. He was lucky but we will hear tons more stories hunting starts Nov. now.:o

Last night on the news a female reporter said the dog had accidently stepped on the trigger causing the gun to fire.
The odds of that happening are about the same as an 8 week old puppy arriving at a new home completely trained to pass the CGC test! Especially since the trigger would have been over a foot above the ground if the gun was standing upright. :D
Another case of accurate and well researched media coverage!;)
Odd. When I heard this story on the radio the day it happened it said his friend stepped on the gun he'd laid on the ground. There was no mention of the dogs. Stuff like this happens several times a year. We were joking about how survival of the fittest during hunting season applies just as much to the humans as the animals they are after.

This version makes as much sense as the dogs stepping on the trigger.
In either case the odds are probably around a million to one of it actually happening the way it was reported.:D

LOL, it's a good thing that survival of the fittest doesn't play as big a role in most human lives as it once did. I'm thinking that could cure overpopulation in several areas in a great big hurry.
