both of my dogs are shedding like crazy!!! lilly is an outside so its not that big of a deal, but flip is inside and hasnt stopped shedding for weeks!!!! im suprised that shes not going bald cause it sometimes falls out in the clumps. my mom and dad are getting sick of it, but im trying all that i can to keep swept or vacumed up. and i nocticed a weeks ago flip had these scabs going down her back. we never figured it out, but at least now they are gone. neither of them have fleas, ticks ( i pull them off all the time when i see one on them ) ringworm or anything like that. i know its summer but why would they still be shedding for weeks??

The best thing that has worked for me is canola oil. My coal only being less than 6 months was shedding and now in the morning i put a 1/4 of canola oil in his food and he stopped shedding. My pitt bull Tosha I give about a half cup cuz shes bigger. it doesn't cause diarrea if you would be worried about that. It will make their coats shinnier and softer too.On dogs that shed really bad it takes about a week to notice any changes and it wont stop the shedding completely but it sure makes one big difference!! (It works on cats too if you can get them to eat it. I have 3 cats and the two dogs inside and you would never know) The canola oil is very good for their skin and coat, it's in all dog food but it's almost in the middle of the list of ingredients--alot of good it does there!:D

A shedding blade has always worked well for me...It takes large clumps off all at once and the hair simply falls off the blade. Its a lot easier to use than a comb or brush, because you don't have to spend the extra time pulling the hair out of the brissels.

My Shepherds no longer CLUMP hair off, just glides off while brushing as I use springinc.com products like Fresh Factors for healthy glowing coats and pliable skin. Promotes less shedding and it is true. Expensive, Yes, but so well worth it all so I brush ten minutes a day on each one to remove loose hair like we have when we wash our hair and WALLA, not much hair on my carpets I have all through my home even in kitchen where we spend alot of time eating of course. hummmmmmmmmmm Brushing daily against the growth then use a mild brush to lay down the hair and a good supplement to promote less shedding. I tried all the oils, sardines packed in oil, etc. nothing but this product works no scrathing of dry skin either. I promote the products because they work and I use them.:drunken:

I know they're expensive, but it is well worth it. I now have two, and recommend them to all of my clients. They're wonderful!

Even better? If there is a PetSmart near you, they guarantee everything that they sell. You can pick one up, and if you're not satisfied with the amount of hair that you get off of them, you can take it back for a full refund. Just keep your receipt.
Good Luck!

Zj i use something similar on my roughs, the one i use has slightly longer teeth. Its brilliant and gets all the indercoat out very quickly. Brilliant if you have a castrated male , especially in a long coated breed.

Hi,
I use shedding blades & shedding combs and about 5 other different grooming combs etc., on Jake (and he's a non-shedding dog - lol) but when we rescued him he 'blew' (I'm told breeders expression) his coat.
In the REALLY hot weather I swim him every day and that helps to get the coat out too.
I can understand your frustration, its nice that you are considerate to your folks by trying to keep get rid of the hairs with the vacuum etc.
Lassie, you mention castrated male - does this affect their shedding (Jake's getting castrated Tuesday)

Rough's don't do water Carol:(
Well in our breed it does, .. It becomes very long and thick. When he does shed his coat it doesn't come out in clumps like the entire ones. He's not too keen on me having a go at his coat. so have to do a few minutes at a time each day. Would think your breed should be fine. Might get a tad thicker , but not sure.:D

The Shedding Blades And Rakes Are Great. Would Help Get The Hair Out When you Want It Out. Good Luck, I May Try That Idea Of Tosha's With The Canola Oil To Make A Shinier Coat.
