Very sad news. I think all fireworks displays should be regulated & announced in advance to neighbors. Poor dog.

Heather Mills' fireworks 'scared my dog to death' (http://www.stuff.co.nz/4256984a1860.html)

Sandra Rowbury - who lives yards from the former model's East Sussex mansion - says her Weimaraner bitch Glow was terrified by the loud explosions and suffered a fatally bloated gut.

Rowbury claims the 20-minute display - which animal rights activist Heather failed to warn fellow residents about - also caused 15 of her horses to stampede in terror.

Sandra said: "As far as I'm concerned she has hurt my animals. I am distraught Glow died.

"It was a huge display - the size of a town's celebrations. Everyone else lets people know if they are planning fireworks, so they can move their animals or give them sedatives.

"She calls herself an animal lover, but she showed no respect for the animals around here."

Glow, a healthy five-year-old, died on Sunday just hours after Heather staged the fireworks to end celebrations for daughter Beatrice's fourth birthday.

I can't say she is one of my favorite celebrities....it does seem like if someone can put on a semi-professional fireworks show that they could let their neighbors know in advance, the same way that any organization would.

I do agree completely that in a residential area, the neighbors should have been notified that there was going to be a large display of fireworks.

I'm really sorry to hear the dog died of bloat; but to blame that on the fireworks is a huge stretch of the imagination.

the neighbours should definatly have been informed. i think she knows she is going to be berated for this incident...which is why she as just turned up our (uk) evening news in tears telling everyone that she wants the public to stop buying news papers as they have driven her to the edge of dispair!!! she is not liked her in the uk much..so i dont think many will take any notice of her pathetic plea

LOL Mermaid, you really don't like her, do you? I guess I've missed all of the good stuff. Most of what I've heard has to do with how badly she's been treated by Sir McCartney. Ah, what a difference an ocean makes, eh?

The neighbors should have been notified of the fire works display. I actually would have been more concerned about the horses stampeding than I would have been about a dog dieing. To blame bloat on fireworks, though, is contrary to what I've learned about the condition.:wtf::confused: Is it even possible?

Actually that is not entirely true. While it is nothing definitive about what causes bloat stress is one of the number 1 possible causes of bloat along with other factors. So while I agree that the fireworks were probably not the complete reason for it I also belive that they could have played a major role in stressing the dog and combined with, as I stated earlier, other factors it certainly didn't help.

I had the same doubts & am about 99.99% convinced no veterinary expert would go out on a limb and state that fireworks scared any dog to death.

She's not very well liked. If I were her, with all that money, I'd move far, far away.

While I agree that the neighbors could have been easily notified of a major fireworks extravaganza (and that should have been required by law), it is the responsibility of the dog owners to make sure they're protected.

All in all, a very unfortunate incident that likely could have been prevented. If the dog was inclined to bloat, it was going to happen sooner or later.

I hadn't heard this, but I would have thought her of all people would have had the decency to let the neighbours know she was going to be having a big display! Such a shame, poor Glow, whatever caused her bloat.

Mills' rep slams dead dog rumours (http://breakingnews.iol.ie/entertainment/story.asp?j=236508588&p=z365x9z94)

Heather Mills has angrily denied rumours a firework display at her England home caused the death of her neighbour's dog.

The former glamour model has been accused of causing the death the animal after holding a party for her daughter Beatrice's fourth birthday at her East Sussex home last week.

But Mills has branded the claims "fabricated".

If the display really was that large then yes she should have informed people, but to be fair she probably didn't think either? We live right next to a rugby club which hosts a huge display every year - we always take care of our dogs during the weeks surrounding fireworks night and we're never warned that it's going to be on.

Don't believe everything you read in the newspapers about her. No one has any idea what goes on behind closed doors, the media has been out to crucify her ever since she got together with Paul Mc. It's all very well to look at these things and think she's horrible because of what you see in a newspaper, but the woman HAS been doing charity work for the last 20 years...I certainly can't say that I've helped to clear landmines etc - can you? The poor thing's actually been receiving death threats which is utterly ridiculous - she has a little girl to think of too.

Don't get me wrong, I think she's silly not to just move away and keep a low profile, but then again if she keeps a low profile her charities won't benefit! And then her little girl won't see her dad so much.

Anyway, I don't know much about bloat in dogs really, and if stress contributes then this may not have helped but don't forget all the other people's fireworks that go off for the 2 weeks srrounding the night! They cause stress too!

It's certainly "possible" the fireworks scared the dog and "could" have bought on bloat. Sad for the dog& family.

I saw Ms. Mills on some entertainment news show the other night talking about the death threats -like she has info in a bank accout to Expose Sir Paul & family should anything happen to her. Give me a break who says that except for in the movies.
