I guess just make the situation as stress free as possible. Just be calm yourself, and then your dog will probably follow.
I am not sure if you go to training, but if you do, that may also help. We tell our pup to "sit" and "stay" during her bath, and she listens pretty well. When she starts nipping, we correct her gently and say, "NO" over again.
You may also want to try bathing with his/her lead on. That way you can have more control over the situation.
Hope this helps!

when we have a new dog or pupy in at owrk i put a slip lead around the dogs neck and then hang it out of the bath and lean on it so i have both hands free, then start to bath the dog at the back legs and bum then working further up the dogs body, depending on the breed some dogs really dont like there heads and ears being washed like german shaperds, always avoid getting water in the dogs ears as this may corse discomfort and may lead to earinfections as well,
when the dog is wet them rub in the shampoo i always use a flannel so u can really get in there then rinse in the same way u started then either use a condioner or hairade or towel dry and then get them out of the bath. and finish drying them and then ur self lol, rember if u have a long coated dog then it is best to groom out with a little bit of water still on the coat to help stop spit ends and braking the hair.
never bath a dog with any knots or matts and try not to rub the coat f it is a long haird breed as it will matt up.
try not to act to streesed ur self as the dog picks up on this and will play up even more always use a strong no if the dog miss behaves and praise up when the dog is standing and doing as it is asked.
i hope this has helped a bit

How about swimming? If your dog gets used to swimming he may like a bath? Actually, my dog smells better when he's been swimming - i know that isn't usually the case as nothing smells worse than a wet dog.
other thing is plug in a comforting Pheromone produced by dogs that reduces or stops stress related behaviors including: barking, urination and defecation, whimpering and whining, howling, anxiety, destructive chewing and other stress-related behavior - my Vet's secretary swears by it. She always uses it for her pets, especially November 5th!
you could also don your swimming cossie and have a shower with your pooch!

Try some warm water poured easily over the dog before the shampoo and rubbing and rinsing. Get it to love water by playing in it with the dog. Make it a fun thing, I always do this with puppies I get from Germany and they have their own foot deep wade pool they love now being so hot. Just let time and patience of slowly putting water on the dog, do not douce it or drence it until it learns to like water. This is what scares them they are put inside a bathtub or dog tub and douced with a hose or spray. Try this and see if it comes around that water can be fun.

Zoe doesn't really like baths. I pick her up and put her in the bath myself and then after that she just stands there with her head hanging down, sulking. She gets really hyper after her bath lol.
She's strange though. She doesn't like baths, but she used to try and get in the shower with me.
You can also try putting something like peanut butter on the side of the tub as a treat while you bathe them. Make it a fun experience for them.
I don't think that if a dog likes to swim, that will mean they like baths because my friends dog lives to swim in lakes and such but when it comes to bath time....good luck.

I think that a routine bath is a good idea. Some dogs look forward to maybe a sunday night bath. Especially if they get their favorite treat afterward

I have NEVER seen a dog who enjoys a bath. About the only thing they like is when you towel them off afterwards. Maybe if they know they are going to get the towel treatment they will put up with it better. :p

Would you buy an automatic dog washing machine?
