Do you have a preference when it comes to Colours of the Labrador retrievers.
Love to see what you favourite is.
Personally I like chocolate the best, then black then yellow. But I think they are all gorgeous:D

I am a sucker for white dogs. Always will be. I love them all, but there is something about white dogs that gives me a tingle. http://www.geocities.com/mymixedbreeddog/smileys/animal/dogandpc.gif

I love yellow labs, they are gorgeous. I used to have the best lab in the world called 'Goldie' (yes I know it aint very imaginative but my mum picked it).
I saw a yellow lab in puppy training class today, He was soooo cute, it make me wanna get a lab but I know we havent got the room for one, especially with our pride and joy Chewie around, lol

I do like all three colors equally. Can't favor one over the other color wise, personality matter the most :)

Black ones are my favourite, they always looks so shiny and smart! Maybe I like them so much because the majority of the ones I know have been black ones. And my best friends Missy is black.
So yep, if I had 3 Labs in front of my to pick I'd go for a black one.

Blacks always look shiner and having a nicer coat for pictures, bright eyes, etc. Yellow is kinda dull, chocolates are also dull for photos. I like blacks best...

Sheplovr can you really tell me that my chocolate girl is dull and not shiny?! :)
I love all colours but I suppose if I had to pick favourites I would say a liver chocolate lab like Meggie or else the whiter end of the golden labs, I love it when they're whiter than dark golden for some reason! :D I wouls still love a black lab to complete the set though!

As a child, my first dog was a black Labrador Retriever named Rosie. Since then I've always been sort of partial to blacks.

I really like chocolate labs with their chocolate noses, and I love the glossy colour of the black ones. However, the yellow ones are so varied I think that they deserve subcategories, I saw a BEAUTIFUL fox red lab the other day, and an almost white somewhere else, so for variety it has to be yellow!

My girlfriend has a chocolate lab named Éclair. I think I prefer that colour-- the chocolate themed names notwithstanding!

Wow, its been interesting to have seen this results. Considering its always the yellow labs that are homed first in litters and rescue centres, blacks and chocolates are our favourites :)

I've never really seen many chocolate labs, but now they seem to be everywhere! I've never had anything against them, but no reason to be close, but I'm surrounded by them, and must admit,,, Growing fonder =]

I prefer the yellows, but I like it when they go orangey-red, and their coat goes longish & scruffy. They look very huggable and I tend to think they look quite intellectual. I think i might just be strange though :)

Joe was a my lovely, soft hearted, kind black lab so i will always have a softness for that breed and probably, that colour
R I P m beautiful black lab xxxxx :rainbow:
I like the black ones best as they are just gorgeous and are in my experience the calmest, a lot of the chocolate ones that I know are mental, is this because of their colour or just the dogs I know because they are a lovely colour.

Colour has no affect on the temperament of the lab you choose, but it is thought that when chocolates became popular in the labrador breed other breeds of dog were bred into the lab to make more chocolates since they were so popular, this is one theory on why the chocolates may have temperament proplems, If i am wrong then please correct me
read this if your interested in a more in depth explanation :)
Chocolate Labs
In the early days, black Labs with a white diamond on their chest were the most desired. (This has been mostly bred out by the Show Lab breeders). Yellow Labs were tolerated. Chocolates, however, were not. They were first suspected as a genetic mistake, and given disparaging names. The accepted practice of the day was to drown them, therefore removing them from the gene pool.
By the early 1970's, genetics had proven that chocolates were just as pure as blacks or yellows. Chocolates suddenly became one of the most desired dogs in the world. The problem was their recessive genes had nearly been eradicated after 500 years of persecution, leaving very few Labs capable of producing chocolates. Breeders, in their haste to make good with this sudden market demand, began breeding anything that was brown and had four legs, calling them "Chocolate Labs". (The Chesapeake Bay Retriever seemed to be the favored stand in.) Papers were a dime a dozen, and only as good as the breeder's word. This led to dilution of the chocolate Lab, leading to the false impression that chocolates were dumb or temperamental. A pure chocolate was as smart and well tempered as the black or yellow.

Thanks, what people used to do to dogs is mean and when a dog or colour of dog becomes popular it is that type or colour that suffers like the chocolate dogs did by getting the reputation of being 'dumb or temperamental'.
