Hi All;

I need your help in convincing roomates how important it is to dry off a dog's coat after giving him or her a bath. What they're doing while I'm away is bathing my dog and keeping him wet. They say it's to cool him off during this heatwave. And they complain to me that the dog stinks! Well I've told them it's because they don't towel him dry, but they don't believe me. Please help by posting your responses. Maybe they'll believe you! Thanks;

Hello Mark45 and welcome to Dogforum.org :)

I agree with you, wet dogs do stink :)

First I would not be happy if someone else took it upon themselves to bath my dog without my permisson. That person doesn't have the knowledge to know what the dog actually needs.

Here is what I would do--- Give the dog a bath in their presence and towel dry the dog. Show them what you are trying to convince them of, that the dog doesn't stink once dried. If that doesn't work ask that they please not bath your dog when you are not there and tell them that it will actually do more harm then good to the dog's skin if bathed too often. ( this is true by the way ). Remind them that it is YOUR dog and your are the one that has to pay the vet bills etc if a problem arises from being over bathed.

Hope that helps.

also if they r leaving the dog wet and letting it out side in the sun it will burn and get heat stroke alot uicker than if the dog was dry. when keeping a dog cool eith lay a damp towel over the dogs back or wet the dogs tummy urmpitts and groin area to cool down a dog fast.

Why are they bathing your dog? I couldn't live with people I can't trust with my own things...
What kind of dog do you have?
I would do as Dobe said. Give them all a demonstation...PROVE it to them. Drag them onto the internet. Anything to show them.

I agree they have no business bathing YOUR pet. If you have air that should solve it. I kept mine inside during that heat and will again if it comes. They are fine and not wet or bathed. A couple do go out to pee and get into their wade pool, but now the water in not so refresing. Just tell them to let the dog be and if no air then u had better find some place for your pet. U cannot let a pet wet and dripping, yes they have an odor when wet all do///////////

Here's some logic:
When you take a dog to the groomer it doesn't come back smelly. What does the groomer do that your roomates aren't? ::ding ding ding:: drying the dog! :)

Yeah, don't even ask just say DO NOT GIVE MY DOG A BATH WHEN I AM NOT HERE. also AND DON'T COMPLAIN THAT THE DOG STINKS, IT'S YOUR FAULT! yeah, that should do it. another thing, do you trust these people? even if you do they shouldn't touch your personal property(your dog) without you knowing. If they think leaving the dog soaking wet after a bath they prolly have no idea about how to take care of a dog. good luck with them!
