I'm not sure if anyone here shows, but if you do, do you have any helpful tips for beginners?

How did you get your do trained to stack?

Any tips for a new handler?

Orchid's first real show is in September. We (hopefully) will be able to take some conformation classes before then. My breeder is also going to give me tips, but I prefer to learn on my own, as well.

Hi I show my two your Borzois. I would suggest you look for a ringcraft class in your area, where they will teach you to stack and move your dog and it waill also socialise the dog and get it used to being in the ring with other dogs.
I am sure there will be someone with more knowlege than me who may be able to offer you more advice. But IMHO the above is what I would do.

i agree. Im sure over here the keeshound is not stacked, but shown on a loose lead . Tha same as my roughs. I know Americans do have different handling techniques in some breeds to us.

To do that you need to have some bait and try and get them to stand, fore square, keeping their attention with bait.

LOL ...note she is not standing correctly at the back as her left leg is forward too much.

The idea of baiting is to keep her alert and looking at you . She will soon get the hang of it if you practice each day with bait in you hand.Tey a few minutes at a time.

I suggest going to a confirmation trainer in your area. They can be a lot of help in the beginning. Also work on touching your dogs feet and back and opening their mouth to show their bite, since this is what a judge will do. This is my cavalier at a show. But most of all just have fun with it. It takes alot of patience and practice and like said if you can get help from a local club member or somebody else that has shown dogs would benefit you honey.
That being said, how I do my Shepherds as they must have the leg behind back to show the topline well I lift the front with my hand and arm between the front legs and try to drop the dog nice and straight from the shoulders, then I stoop down to get a back leg back far as I can and tell the dog to blieb or stay in German. I have a person help me by keeping the ears errect, then give a treat if all is accomplished well, if not we start over until he/she gets it. Slow process but ten minutes or five a day and they pick up on their stack fairly quickly. Good luck sweetie and just work if your dog stands square, I had horses for some 35 yrs. and we haltered same as showing a dog in confirmation, you practiced daily and I tapped the foot that was outta place to correct the stance.

Isn't there like a book or something someone has? I've seen "showing for dummies" at like petsmart. I would like to know about showing, but have no show dog.

Well, my breeder teaches confirmation, so I'll be taking classes from her. I just didn't want Orchid to get in the class, and have my breeder be like, "Ok, and why didn't you work with her on this?" :):):)

My breeder's a very nice lady- I guess I just want to make sure I do everything right, so that Orchid can be shown at her fullest potential.

We start classes next Tuesday (well, this coming tuesday, rather).

I will let you know what I've learned and maybe take pictures of Orchid. She's a silly girl, and typically something always happens to her that is cute or silly.
