Hi all, I'm new to the forum and am looking into buying a Westie. I would like to buy from a reputable breeder, but can't seem to find one, or get one to give me the time of day :(
I DO NOT want to get a puppy from a broker, backyard breeder, or a petstore, but I am getting discouraged in my pursuit of finding my future puppy.
If anyone here can help me I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks so much!

Go to akc.org and look up the Westie under breeds. Click on the National Westie Club's website and send out e-mails to names you see on the site. They can hopefully link you up to good breeders.
Also, go to the akc.org and click on events. Follow the links until you get to the events calendar. Look for conformation shows upcoming in your state. Visit these shows and go and personally introduce yourself to the Westie people. Talk with them. Tell them what you're looking for. You can find some good breeders that way, too.
Do NOT give up on getting a Westie from a reputible breeder who focuses on personality. Westies can be snappy, aggressive dogs when poorly bred. You don't want to go down that road, so look for a reputible breeder. Make sure to meet the parents of your potential pup and assess the parents' personalities. Look for friendly, happy behaviors vs. snappy behaviors. A good breeder will be happy to let you spend time with the parents of your pup.
A well bred Westie is a nice dog. A poorly bred one is a nightmare!

I spent HOURS on the internet the other day. HOURS. I contacted MANY Reputable breeders of Westies off of the West Highland Terrier Club of America website. I even found emails on websites that were just attachments of other websites, of other websites, of other websites! I emailed these people, I've even called. No one has responded. It's only been a couple of days, but it's so discouraging. I feel like I'm someone that is trying to enter into a snobby world of Westies and they aren't admitting any new members. I am going to call a few more that I didn't get to, but I almost feel like I'm harrasing these people!
But even if I don't end up with a westie, I will feel better that I didn't buy it from the "broker" I was going to buy it from. I just couldn't live with myself.
Again, if anyone has any advice, let me know.

Gosh such a pity you have not contacted and talked with a Good Breeder, I do not know of any anyplace only via the net as your also doing. Did you try petfinder.com, do not remember if that is mixes or whatever? Google Westies Breeders your in N.Y. so maybe u do not want an extra amount in flighting one? There must be some breeders in your state that will contact you? I have never heard of this, they must be very different as I always contact my email people and return phone calls.???? Make one wonder if they do want bothered?? I wish you success, patience and persistance pays so keep at it.....:)

Tattyana hang in there. It can take a while to find a great dog. It took us months to get a Golden, we ran into the same thing. Be patient and have a look at petfinder too.

It's how we got our Golden Girl.
Good luck.

Sometimes, people don't answer e-mails. If I don't get a response, I go back on the websites and gather phone number. Then, I start calling.

I didn't give up and I called some people and actually got someone to answer the phone!! I had many questions and they had great answers! THEY even asked me if I wanted to come over! I said yes and was ready to set up a day and time and they just told me to come over NOW! ha ha
They didn't have puppies, but just found out that their dog was for sure pregnant. We met all their dogs, they board, they groom, and they used to show! They were so knowledgeable, and so excited to share their love of the breed with me. And I realized that I was right, the Westie is the dog for me!
I wont be taking a puppy home until around March, but it's perfect! It will give me more time to think about things and get ready for what's to come!
Hope everyone has a great holiday, and thank you so much for your help and support!!!
