I'm really tired of these types of threads. If you honestly want to know how the members of this forum feel about pit bull do a search. If you want to start a fight, FIND A NEW FORUM!

I strongly disagree, they are the most wonderful, loyal, gentle dogs you will ever meet. You have met a one off! What did the owner do? I think thats where you should be looking, the owner, not the dog. :(

the owner stood on the side walk watching as i tried to wrench his dogs jaws from my baby! i was screaming for him to help but he didnt, when it was finnaly over he called her and she came to him happily and as if nothing had happened they walked off leaving me to tend to my wounded pup!!

Any Breed of dog is only as good as the Owner is?? Having said this many breeds can be very nastey and dog agressive if not well socialized and people, dog friendly, do not blame the breed or dog. It only knows what it has been taught. they are lovely dogs owned by many and to my knowledge not banned anyplace no more than my shepherds or any other breed of. Here is a great link of them, read n see:

The Staffordshire Bull Terriers are known to have great strength for their size. They are stocky and muscular, but should also be active and agile. The breed is the 5th most popular dog in the UK (its place of origin), and it is the only breed to have the words 'totally reliable' in its breed standard. Furthermore, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two breeds from over 190 recognized by the UK Kennel Club to have a mention of the breed's suitability with children.

First of all, if the pitt wanted to kill your pup, you wouldn't have stood a chance of getting it out of the jaws. Second, like I said, the owner was a d---.
I am sure you're just upset right now. Please be careful what you say about other people's dogs. My Moll is cross pitt, and she is my wonderful baby! :)

I love Staffs. I OWN a Staffordshire bull terrier x jack russell, My neighbour (2 doors down) owns 3 Staffs. I even know someone who has a pit bull x staffordshire bull terrier, the dog is friendly and nice. The dogs should not be banned, all dogs can be scary or aggersive.

I am tired of these threads and do not want this to turn into a fight

THE BREED IS NOT EVIL!!!
It's owners and people who go around saying the breed is evil that makes people believe they are evil.
A dog only behaves the way it is trained (or not trained as the case may be). This dog obviously had poor socialisation skills due to not being trained properly. So blame the owner, not the dog.
No they are not banned, certainly not in the UK. And I do not think they should be. Any dog can attack due to poor training and not being socialised. Would you hate the breed if it had been a tiny little poodle?
I hate threads like these, ignorent people who do not realise its the owners fault not the dog. Sorry to be harsh but it drives me insane!

I don't believe it was a pit molliesmum, but a staffordshire bull terrier. Pit bulls ARE banned here, but staffies are not.

I disagree as well. I don't think there can even be such a thing as an evil dog. There can however be owners who cannot or will not control their dogs. That is not the fault of the individual dog or the breed in my opinion. My dogs and I have been attacked by all kinds of dogs.

Oops sorry Molly is a cross staff. I thought they were called Staffordshire Pitts. My mistake.

Very glad you cleared this up... Now you may just survive this thread without getting led to the slaughter. Haha, be forewarned, never blame a breed unless you want to get in to a very heated argument. Think about the other end of the leash. ;)

It is okay. The Dogs behaviour is down to a poorly trained Owner. Or a Owner who hasnt bothered to train their dog not to be so aggressive.

I was not angry nor upset about this thread, there s no need to say sorry. it was a mistake and anger that you needed to let out, we all understand. Some owners just dont train their dogs well *sigh*

Indeed. And it can be very upsetting. I was shaking once after a large dog came out and attacked Zircon. Took me a couple of hours to calm down. :)

A German hepard lives down my street and approached Oscar on a walk once, took me about 3 days to go down there ever again. There also is a yappy Jack russell terrier that Oscar often walks by everyday, when the dog starts yappying you can see Oscar running the other direction. lol.

Indie Girl learn to carry a heavy built club, not so heavy u cannot carry it or mace to spray if attacked. Try not to ever scream with dogs as that only makes their adrenlan very high and the worse one can do is holler and get excited, the more calm you are chances the dog will walk away. This is why I love a big dog at the end of my leash, they do not scare but they do not fight only if I would be attacked. I have walked them on many streets with just inground electric with a Dobe coming right up the end of yard, knowing it had electric it stopped we walked by and my male did nothing not even much of a look. Keep calm as u reflect to your dog nerverous attitude no matter what. Calm, quiet and chances are it will leave u all alone.:)

I took Ringo out to a fenced-off area yesterday afternoon and there were a few dogs in there with their owners, including a large pit-bull.
Ringo is a very friendly dog, who likes to say hi to all and sundry, and only about 10kg so would be absolute fodder if he ever met a killer off-leash.

Not only did the pit-bull kiss him but apparently wanted to make a few puppies as well (in a non aggressive way)! He obviously wasn't seeing that dangly thing between Ringo's legs.....

My staffy has been attacked 3 times , by 3 different breeds, she didnt have a go back just whimpered until i rescued her. I hope your pup is ok and i know you must have been very upset and angry but the bull breeds dont need persecuting by other dog lovers . The owner was the evil here and to just stand and do nothing then happily go on his way makes us decent staffy owners soooooo mad.

hey, all i can say is it is totally the owners fault, my brother has a staffie and he is themost placid thing in the world! seriously he is like scooby doo! just plain round fun and no aggressivness to wards any othre dog and is always happy to play and is fantastic around my niece! i would really say a lot of dogs get a really bad name due to the fact that in history they have been known to be strong dogs, therefore any lowlife thinks it's really cool to have a powerful dog without giving it the proper attention it needs to live a balanced life and then exerts its aggression. This is what gives the dog a bad name, it's unfortunate that people look at a dog rather than it's owner to judge it

THERE ARE NO BAD BREEDS, JUST BAD OWNERS

That just about sums up how i feel, im glad your dog is alright, things could have been much worse...

im sorry your lil pup was hurt but please dont rant about the breed of any dog on here.lots of people own staffs my best feind has one and he is the best dog he is so lovely and gentle with my 2YEAR OLD!! its how there brought up huni.i dont see why they should be banned? it always comes down to the owner in may cases like this dont blame the DOG blame the owner. your obv upset what happened and should of reported it to the police as by what u said it sounds like the owner was happy with what his dog did and next time it could be a whole lot worse the owner of this dog needs to be seen have u seen him/her around before?
