I ran across this site which has useful information on what to look for as far as health tests go for Labbies. Some of the information is specific to the UK, but a lot of the explanations are also general. It might be of interest to anyone who is thinking of getting a Lab or breeding a Lab.

Geesss did not think they had so many problems, now Hip Displasia runs in mixes and small dogs so not surprised at that.

But, having eye problems, etc does surprise me as so many are sold being number one on AKC list and Retrievers, Shepherds third.

Thanks Skunky.:)

Great information!

If every wannabe breeder would read these individual stories before breeding; just think of the unnecessary heartache that could be avoided!

Too often when the necessity for health testing is brought up in a discussion, potential breeders just don't get it! They feel that they're being attacked; when in reality they fail to understand that they could be dooming innocent puppies to a lifetime of pain--or worse!

It does appear that the top two breeds listed will breed anything then sell them.

I have had my males checked for thyroid, heart and of course I do hips on all, that is the big killer right now.!!

I have DNA my males but not sure that can prove a big bunch, but felt it necessary having two breeders.

Gosh, many just plain people breed females because they can reproduce, so the father maybe never even had a good home less any tests run. People that buy them will learn soon the problems they bought into.

Such a pity for puppies to suffer because of needless breedings done over and over. I sure believe in testing and also to take mine to specialists vets not ordinary ones when I want things done. I go into Pittsburgh.:)
