Hi Melissa: applesmom is the GSP expert, but my Lizzie was predominantly white bodied with brown flecks, and a brown head. In my limited experience I have never seen a totally solid brown, they always seem to have at least a few white flecks or darker brown, but I am sure applesmom will fill you in more fully and correctly.

Yes they are, it's referred to as liver, not brown. I had two solid liver dogs and one litter of solid liver pups. They can be any combination of liver and white or solid liver, but not pure white.

My neice now dead of kidney disease at age 34 had a Hunting bird dog, it had speckles, red ears, kinda longer hair. Of course it was her love her last years of suffering badly and it was such a sweet dog, lived a long life, think she paid $500.00 for her
I did manage to look up hunting dogs and it is English springer, glad I did for Amy loved that dog and it did not live long after she passed with her disease after two transplants, my sisters only child, then my sister passed at 58. I was just curious what kind it was but found it.

Thankyou applesmom, they did not get it from a breeder, my uncle drives truck and he met a guy at a truck stop trying to get rid of his dog for free and claimed she was a purebred GSP, but she was totally liver coloured and i had always thought of GSP having white on them but thankyou for the clarification, she looks like the dogs in the photo but she is a bit overweight.
thankyou

Oh Applesmom, what a beautiful GSP. I had forgotten that they were referred to as liver, not brown, apologies! I have never seen an all liver one like that before, what a magnificent dog. Nice and tall too like my Lizzie. For a bitch, she was a big girl. I believe Wittekind Gregory, her father, was a very tall dog.

What a beautiful liver GSP. I know when I bought my girl they had 2 solid livers and the rest were white and liver.

Is that one of your dogs, Applesmom, or just a picture of a GSP?

No that's not one of my dogs. Dee was solid liver but that's not her. The only photo I have of her is in black and white and wouldn't have worked to illustrate coloring. ;)
