This news story is "sort of" funny, but to a dog lover really isn't. A dog was admitted to a vet clinic in Austria with an extremely high blood alcohol content. The kicker is that the dog hadn't drunk anything alcoholic, but instead had helped himself to some yeast dough that was rising on the counter. Somehow I'm not surpirsed that it was a Labby , but still, it is a good idea to make sure that dogs don't get into the dough if you decide to make some bread. :(
Tests indicated that the dog had a blood alcohol content of 1.6 grams of alcohol per litre of blood.
But that was not the result of Dingo having one drink too many, the owner insisted.
The hungry pooch had stolen and secretly devoured half a kilogram of fresh yeast dough from the kitchen. Alcohol had formed inside his stomach as a result of the fermentation process, leaving poor old Dingo stone drunk.

Ohhh I watch anything I bake with and it is most likely something to do with the Yeast rising. It stinks kinda and does not surprise me this would effect a dog same way alcohol does a human, kinda funny though, but not if it were one of mine. I would not be laughing as u said....:)

My friend who lives in the North of England telephoned me a few days ago. We hadn't chatted since just before New Year.
She and her husband were celebrating New Year with a glass of wine (neither of them drink very much) and she put her glass down to go to the bathroom. Her husband went into the kitchen for something. When she came back down, she noticed her glass of wine was empty - and promptly blamed her husband who, of course, denied drinking it.
A short time later they noticed their JRT X was falling over her own feet. Yep. The dog had helped herself to the wine and was drunk:rolleyes:
She was OK but my friend thinks the dog had a hangover the next day as she was very quiet, paw over the eyes type thing. My friend says she will be careful if she's having a glass of wine in future. The dog is none the worse.
The dog eating the dough probably led to the yeast starting a fermentation process in the dog's stomach. First time I've heard of it though.

Python that's interesting to know, I wouldn't have thought that dogs would like the taste of wine.
I do know that they seem to like beer. I remember years ago there was a fraternity party where a keg of beer was sitting in a large container of ice which was slowly turning to water in the California warmth. The guys who were pouring themselves beers from the keg managed to dribble some of it into the ice/water, and a Dobe came along and drank from the water/beer mixture. That dog must have been a mean drunk, because later one he bit someone in the rear end.

I've heard of dogs drinking beer too, but it was the first time I'd heard of one drinking wine but with my friend's dog (Mutt of the highest order:rolleyes:) it didn't surprise me in the least.
Here's one for you to chuckle at. I have a snake, a Royal (Ball) Python who likes coffee:eek: I had him out one day and had the remains of a lukewarm cup of coffee. As I took a sip, my Python forced his head between my lips and the cup and was trying to drink the coffee. When I put the cup at arms length away from him, he followed the cup, trying to get to it. That was when he was very young but he still does it so I keep him well away from coffee.
Silly snake!!!

I thought I read somewhere of a dog dying from eating bread dough...seems like it enlarged and blocked the dog's gut...not sure I remember all the details.

This story reminded me of when my chow cross, now 15 years old, was a puppy. One day a friend was over and she left her beer on the table as we left the room for some reason. When we got back the can was on the floor totally emply and Pop was weaving around acting silly. The next day she just layed on the floor with her paws over her head moaning. She learned her lesson, to this day she snarls and snaps at any beer can she sees, kind of a funny party trick, lol.
