Ingredients
4 New York strip steaks
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus some for drizzling
4 portobello mushroom caps
2 cups shiitake mushroom caps
1 large white onion, peeled and sliced into 1/2-inch thick rounds
1 bunch jumbo asparagus, peeled
4 tomatoes, cored
3 jalapeno peppers
3 large basil leaves
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, plus some for drizzling
Directions

1. Coat onion slices, asparagus, tomatoes and jalapenos in 2 tablespoons olive oil. Season with salt and pepper and add to the hot grill. Cook for 4 minutes on each side and remove from the grill. Set asparagus aside and keep warm while preparing salsa.
To make salsa, remove charred loose rings from the onion rounds and place in the blender. Remove and the skins and seeds from the tomatoes and add remaining tomato to the blender. Remove and discard the skin and the seeds from the jalapenos. Mince the jalapenos and add to the blender. Add the basil leaves, olive oil and balsamic vinegar and pulse until chunky. Reserve until serving.
Season steaks with salt, pepper and olive oil and place on the hottest part of the grill. Toss the mushroom caps in 2 tablespoons olive oil and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Place the mushrooms on the heat with smaller mushrooms around the edges of the grill. Cook the steak for 4 minutes on each side for medium rare, 8 minutes on each side for well done. Cook the portobellos for 2 minutes on each side, the shiitakes for about 1 to 2 minutes on each side.
Slice the steak and portobellos on a bias and place on a platter with the grilled asparagus, shiitakes and tomato salsa. Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar before serving.VERY DELICIOUS, I LOVE STEAK ANYTIME AND EAT IT OFTEN. THIS MEAL WILL SERVE ABOUT 4...

Sounds good. I prefer mine cooked over a very hot fire, just enough to char the fat (there is always a little fat on a good ribeye) then toss it on the plate. For the asparagus, I like to steam it on the grill, just enough so it's still "al dente" The shrooms, like you stated. I do like my beef. My only disagreement, I don't believe a steak should be cut up except by the person eating it. Serve it whole, hot and directly from the fire.

I just love steak period...doesn't matter how it's cooked. I love baked potatoes and mushrooms baked in a bbq sauce with a nice big salad to go along with the steak.

Do you really cook all this great stuff Sheplover?

Would you like to adopt me?:D Your meals sound a whole lot better than those served in the local coffee shops or the ones that Stouffers puts out.

Not too long ago when I returned home and opened my front door I noticed that the house smelled very different than it used to, sorta musty. I finally figured it out! It's because I rarely cook anymore and the house is no longer filled with delicious odors of home cooking. :(

Gonna have to get busy and bake some brownies n stuff now and then so I'll have the good smells back.:)

Ohhh yes Carol I cook and bake daily. I bake a loaf of bread every other day as I do not like bought bread.

I love to experiment on new receipes and what I like I print out and keep, what I do not, of course I do not bother to. I expecially like steaks, different styles of cooking. Stir fri I love to make, just most anything but if it does not turn out good, then Byyyyeee. lol.
