I know this might sound complicated, but please, try to understand...

At the moment I'm studyin in high school in Finland. After finishing highs school, I'm probably goin to study history in university. First all seemed to bee simply, but now I have got the idea of going to the university in UK.

And then I started to search information about studying abroad and all became to seem complicated... I found dozens of questions with no answer.. I know this can be wrong place to ask these things, but I hope I will get even some answers.

First and the biggest question: the language. Of course, studies in UK are in English. I also know, that my English is quite bad (at least I don't get any good result from exams...). So, I'm afraid that I won't be successful in my studies..

And university costs about 3000£ per year. That sounds awful, because university studies are here free... That is probably biggest problem, because I don't have that much money :(

I don't know what to do. :wackosmiley:

crim, It sounds exciting that you want to get out and see more of the world, that's great!
I used to be a professor in Europe so maybe I can help a little. :)

If your English is really not very good, that will be a big problem if you want to study something like history. There will be a lot of reading involved and you might have trouble understanding the lectures and then taking the exams. So maybe you can find out if your English is good enough to handle university level classes. If it is not, then your first step might be to work on that.
About the money, what you might be able to do is do part of your studies in the UK. Many universities have exchange programs where you can spend a semester or even a year abroad. This would let you do most of your studies in Finland where you would not have to pay for tuition, but some of them in the UK.
You might also ask at your high school if they can help you make contact with potential universities where you might be thinking of going.
Good luck and I hope you get some more help! :)

First off, your English seems pretty good to me! :)

Why dont you work in Britain for a summer, after school, and work on improving your english? I work for an adventure holiday company, who have quite a few people working for them who are there to work on thier english, and there are lots of other compaines who do it too :)

As for the money I have to find £17, 500 a year if I choose to carry on studying after I finish my degree (If I ever bother to go back :P), and Ive looked into it and you can get burasries, loans and grants, so its possible to get it sorted :)

When it comes to reading vocabulary, I'm quite lazy. So I think that is the main problem in my English skills. Grammar goes better, but of course I have some problems with that too. If you want to get good grades from English, you have to bee very good in here :)

I think that working in the UK for a summer would be nice way to make my English better. I maybe would like to be history teacher some day, but time will show. I just read that teacher isn't very admired job in UK, in Finland it is very admired job. And you can see that in income too I think.

A lot of people (including a few of my friends) went to work with the company I work for beacuse we work with children, and it puts them in good stead for going into teaching. In fact two of the guys I worked with last year were from Finland and were going on to teach English back there.

If you think that you would be interested give me a pm and I can give you a weblink, i dont know if im allowed to post it here :)

And sadly no, teachers in this country do not get the recognition that they deserve :(

crim, have you looked into the possibility of doing a course in Finland with a year studying abroad in England? If this is an option at universities in Finland to do this, maybe that could be a good idea for you? I did this with university (studied here in the UK and did a year abroad in USA) and it was great, the exchange was relatively cheap as well becuase we got charged whatever our current rate for university was in the UK for that year.

Good luck with your search!
