I was just sitting here thinking about what my long term goals are (next 10 years) and I was wondering what every one elses long term goals were for themselves. You can add in long term goals for the pups as well but mostly I'm curious to see what yours are. Here are mine:
1. Find classes (preferably localy) for dog training so that I can become a certified dog trainer.
2. Open my own business training dogs using posative reinforcement.
3. With any luck if my business takes off I would like to open my own animal rescue within 10 years of starting my business.

So glad to hear you plan on going to college!!:applaud::applaud: Business sounds like a great idea if you want to open your own! As far as working at the RSPCA wow, what can I say but that you must be a very strong person knowing what goes on there (and I know you do) to want to work there. Personally there is no way that I could knowing that this sweet little innocent face that I see every day for a week or so I will have to help euth. if no one adopts it. I think I would end up kind of like the crazy cat lady on the simpsons only with dogs lol!!

I no longer make long term plans. My life seems to take sudden shifts and changes - I think I will just take things day by day and try to enjoy life more than I have in the past.

I'm at an age where log term goals mean something very different than they did 20 or 30 years ago. I've been lucky, I've met all the goals I set for myself and then some. At this point I'm happy if my little business does well enough for me to make enough money to pay the mortgage and the bills. And like Hazen n Mike said, looking back, my life took sudden changes. Any time I tried to predict where I would be ten years into the future, well my predictions were always so far off it wasn't funny. So I stopped predicting.
But I think having goals is a very good thing because it gives you direction. You don't have to be married to your goals though. :)

Well for this year my first plan is:
(1) to enjoy this year, on the Isle of Wight, doing a fun job, in a beautifull part of the world, and try and just chill out a bit :)
Then more long term:
(2) go back to uni, ither to finish my origional degree in zoology and go on to do the conservation thing, working out in yon nature reserves of the world, and the rainforests, or finish the degree (and work my backside off) and continue on to vetinary school, specialise in exotics, and as planned, head off to yon nature reserves and rainforests of the world, both of these degrees are in an attempt to help save the animals that no one seems to publicise from extinction. Im talking the frogs, the reptiles, the bats, the birds, the small mammals...I feel someone needs to do something for the understated animals, they are just as important. Its all Ive ever wanted to do :)
(3) train Cai into something resembling a calm, well trained retriever...but I think this one may be a bit far fetched!!! :p

My husband and I have always had the retirement goal of running our own dog rescue. Mind you, we're 30+ years from retirement, at the current rate, but we're slowly working toward that goal.
I'll be graduating with my MBA in May. One of the reasons for that was so that I could handle the business side of the rescue. I will most likely go back for a certificate in running non-profits in a couple of years. (I am ready for a break right now.)
He plans on becoming a certified trainer.
We keep looking at property. If we were in a little better shape, now would be an ideal time to buy, but alas, one mortgage is all we can afford at the moment.
While our lives have certainly taken a few twists and turns, the goal of a dog rescue has remained our "true north" so to speak, and I'm pretty confident that we'll get there, even if it's not for another 30 years.

I want to keep expanding my business at a rate of about 5 or 6 houses a year for the next couple of years. My girlfriend is also moving over to England in a few months and I'm really excited about starting to build a life together. Getting a dog is one of our first priorities :)

next 6-12 months, is that long-term enough? :)
-lose more weight, I'm down 20 pounds with 80 to go
-figure out what to do with the rest of my career (30 years till I can collect Social Security )
-do a budget so I won't be completely broke in my very old age.
-take a vacation (maybe, but this is a long shot)

My husband's about 5 yrs from retirement, maybe less. I'd love to move to the country. I'm sick of the city hustle & bustle. I want to be on at least 2 acres & have my dogs & cat. I would also like a pony & a couple of mini cattle but that's just a dream. Definitely want some chickens too.
If I had a more retentive brain I'd like to do the Delta course to be a Cert IV dog trainer.
