Many of you might of seen the news today or this evening, this made me actually so ill I could not eat. I felt so badly for the cows that could not stand to make them suffer even more with hosing, electric jabs, fork lifts throwing them about. It is for school food it was said but not proven to be a fact, but somebody is getting this meat in our states or country????http://youtube.com/watch?v=jaWYRFJPbtY

It is very horrible, had a thread on it a while back but it got deleted because it really is a controversial issue because sometimes the converssation starts on being vegetarian and such.
I love meat and will continue to eat it but I think what happens to the animals before they get to my plate is awful.

Just a note here - anytime a a thread gets started with a link to pictures or a video that has a lot of blood, gore, animals being tortured, piles of dead dogs, that kind of thing (like with the deleted thread that is being refered to) AND has a letter-writing campaign- it can't stay. This link is not even in the same league as the deleted one.

Something similar was on the news last night. It's very difficult to watch, but it's real life in the real world. This or something similar goes on every day in every part of the world and has been happening since men first began to mass produce animals for food.
They weren't deliberately torturing the cow for their own pleasure. How do you move a thousand pound cow or any other large animal that can't get to it's feet? Before forklifts and cattle prods these animals were roped and dragged by men on horses to meet their fate. A forklift is more humane than being dragged by the neck.
I seriously doubt that the way of handling these situations will change. If it did, we wouldn't be able to afford the products they produce.

Yes, I said I saw it on the news. Never dreamed they treated live cows with such torture. Electric probes hitting them when they were too crippled to get up or walk on all fours. That to me is inhumane regardless what cowboys did.
They had no other means and it never hit the news. this was done by hidden camera just how badly cows are tortured before death. Screaming behind scenes, horrible and they are investaging this and fired two for it already. They stood and punched the sick cow to get up when he knew it could not, just plain torture and cruel.
The fork lift was not as bad as the torturing I saw and hatered of sick cows these nuts had. I call it as I saw it also inhumane and disgusting means of treatment and obviously wrong as some are getting fired two already and a full investagation is on going about this. This meat on film was going to school children, sick cows.!!!

I didn't see the piece on the news. All I saw was a promo for the story to follow later.
In the clip from you tube I didn't see any evidence of deliberate torturing and certainly no hatred toward the cow. They even poured water over it to cool it down. Apparently the cow was being picked up to be taken to the slaughter house. The owners were obviously standing by watching the entire proceedings. IMO They were the ones that should have insisted that the cow be euthanized before any attempt was made to load it. They should also be charged with animal cruelty. Not the guys that were doing their best to do a terrible job they shouldn't have been asked to do in the first place.
For the most part, farming isn't done for the benefit of the animals unless it's to help them produce more efficiently. Once they can no longer produce, they're dead weight and highly dispensable.
Not something anyone really wants to be made aware of on the evening news!:(
Here's the link to the original story! http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/30/undercover.slaughter.video/index.html

What they just did there is 100% illegal!
That animal has gone off its legs so cannot be slaughtered for meat.
and they lifted her with no restraints which she could fall of which she did and seriosly injure herself and the people.
To them its just a job. They aint even alive to those people
I have seen same type of video about horse transport. Horses with broken legs were transported to Italy, where the price of horse-meat was higher. There was also a little foal with broken leg and she couldn't walk. Put people didn't put her to sleep because they get even more money from foals meat. Some horses died in the trailer because the trailer was packed so full that other horses stumped to death. :(
I wonder why EU doesn't stop this kind of animal transporting!

If the animal would be already passed not so bad, but probing with electric probes to get up when it was too crippled or sick to. Hitting with sticks or slabs of wood, hosing hard into the faces just to torture for fun. they were laughing in the T.V. video of undercover agents filming.
Just some people get a high on tortureing animals and the more they cry or holler in pain or suffering the harder they go after them. It was horrible. I have been to horse auctions I would buy ponies with long feet, lame, bring them home, docter them up and gentley break them for good homes. some would be too far gone, but I bought some good ponies to save.
I have seen some mean nastey people at auctions with no hearts or souls. Cruel men that show off torturing animals and it just made me so angery I would fight with them to lay off. I do not know if I can eat beef after this, my two daughters do not eat meat, fish or anything but veggies fixed many ways. We raised a cow called it Moo Moo, put it to pasture for 3 months and told them we got it a home which we did. When it was killed and packed, sent to us, we could not eat it and told them the truth, that did it for meat as they sat on that cow it was a pet.
