Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself and my dogs to the forum. I'm Mona. I got my first dog (ever) in July. Her name is Tess and she is a red cocker spaniel. About a month later I decided to get another (my husband thought I was crazy lol) so I got Cole. He is a black and tan cocker spaniel. I love them to pieces and having animals has taught me so much about happiness and simplicity in life. Well...just wanted to say hello!

Wow, 2 cockers, that's a lot of grooming. I have all I can do to keep up with 1 cocker coat and 1 Pom coat. How do you manage it?

Thank you everyone. I love having two. I find they are so entertaining. They play together so much and it is hilarious to watch. As for grooming two cockers, I do it myself. I try to maintain their coat rather than letting it go for weeks on end and having to do it. Every week or other week, I clip them and give them a bath after. It hasn't been so bad. I don't think I will let their coats grow much longer than they are though, exactly for that maintenance reason.

Your dogs are all so cute...thanks for the warm welcome!

I use clippers. I'm part of a cocker spaniel forum at www.zimfamilycockers.com (http://www.zimfamilycockers.com). They sell a DVD on how to groom them. I ordered it and it is actually quite easy. I wouldn't have attempted it otherwise. As for them sitting still, I try to be somewhat dominant while I'm doing it. Let them know we have to get this done, it isn't time to play. Aftwards I give them a treat or a kong with some peanutbutter in it. I also think that because I do it every week or every other week they are getting really used to it. You should give it a try!

are you in uk or usa? ruby is going to the groomer later this week, as she is looking like a woolly mammoth with a wig on at the moment :) so maybe once she is nice and short i can try and keep it up with regular clips??? i will let you know!!!

I'm actually in Canada. I think that would be a great idea, to have him groomed and then to keep it up yourself. It is quite the cost savings to do it yourself too.

I also bought a few of the Zimfamilycockers how to videos, they are great, well worth the money. The girls go to the groomers about 3 times a year, and I trim them weekly...they have gotten a lot of bad mommy haircuts, but I'm getting better! They think they're beautiful when they get down from the grooming table.

Same here, they started off with a few bad haircuts lol. But it grows out, so no big deal...and I've gotten much better at it!

Hello & welcome to df. We had a gold cocker start at my obedience club 2 weeks ago. He's the quickest learner in the class.
