With some celebrities making headlines for their stupid treatment of pets, it's a nice change to see one who puts his money where his mouth is. One thing you can say for Bob Barker, he's taken a stand.
Animal rights have long been Barker’s pet cause (pardon the pun). In 1987, he made headlines when, as the host of the Miss USA Pageant, he petitioned the show’s producers to stop including fur coats in the contestants’ prize packages.
The producers refused, and in 1988, Barker ended his affiliation with the show after 21 years as its host.
...
In his 30-plus year stint as host of The Price is Right, Barker’s signature sign-off line – “Help control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered” – highlighted his love of animals, and his desire to use his publicity to help their cause. It also makes “Seacrest out” sound even stupider by comparison.
