View Full Version : *sobs* puppies leaving
So we took the first two puppies to their homes tonight. :( I'm so glad they are getting the homes they have...but it was sooooo hard to leave them w/ the families. (honestly, they were driving me nuts...but what do you expect w/ 5 dogs in an apt) Part of me is glad to be starting to get peace again but the other part of me just feels like I didn't get to spend enough time with them. 2 of the 4 I'll be able to visit regularly if I choose since they are here in the Springs...the other 2 will be living 1-4 hours away so it'll be harder to see them. Though, the 2 families here agreed to let me use the dogs in a year from now to skijor with (as long as I get Tikaani trained by then and get myself some new cross country skis).
I'm just a big nerd too...and I took photos of the puppies with their new owners. So I'll have those posted eventually...I'm just too tired lately to even bother hassling with editing the photos...in fact, I need to get them on my comp first. The other 2 pups go on Sat. It'll be hard but I screened their homes SOOOOO heavily and I know they'll be in good hands but they're still like my babies.....so feels like I'm almost losing part of myself.
Ok...done with the bawling for now.

Well done to you Lynn, you've done a fantastic job, considering they were "sprung on you" so to speak. It is sad when they go, and you will think of then constantly. Give yourself a pat on the back for all the hard work done and all the TLC you gave them!

aww, i would feel sad too. skijoring i thought was really cool, lotas dogs like to do it, not just northern dogs. like choc labs n' stuff. i'm glad you found good,kind and right homes for your pups, you are my hero. i just came from petfinder.com, the classifides place. some you can tell they don't know a thing about the dog, others they just can't wait to get rid of the dog. some just had like "is a very good dog, looking for a forever home!" blech! but then again that is where i got oakley, she is a wonderful dog. yet it did concern me how they just handed them over, they didn't ask for references, they didn't meet us or anything.

Lynn, you did an excellent job finding them homes. I know what you mean though, I have had to sell horses and it is always hard, you become so attached to them.
Thank you everyone for such nice words. Here's the sad thing...now that there are only 2 puppies it's SOOO much quieter and now I don't want to give them up at all! I think my first mistake was giving them all names though...I've learned that's a no-no from now on if animals aren't staying with me. I just know it wouldn't do them justice to all stay with me though.
All the homes they're going to have big yards w/ 6' tall privacy fences. When I was screening homes, that was one requirement I had was that they had to have a fenced yard (I know it sounds hypocritical...but I wouldn't adopt to a family who lived in an apt...b/c in *most* (not necessarily all) cases, everyone living in the apt works all day and the puppies would end up crated ALL day and end up pottying themselves or have no interaction with anyone...whereas I'm home almost all the time b/c of my jobs). I also ask that EVERYONE have SOME experience with huskies, whether it be having owned one, been around them a lot and familiar w/ their behaviors, or worked with them.
I made one exception for one family on that one. She had a HUGE fenced yard, privacy fence, rocks lined the fence so the dog can't dig under it, and her house was just massive. Plus, though she'd never had a husky before, she read literally EVERY informative website I sent her, spent time talking to her neighbor who has a husky, and since she lives in Greeley (3 hours away from me) she went out the very first day we talked and took photos of literally every room in her house, every inch of her yard and of her family. (they have a 15 month old so everything is babyproofed already so the puppy *should* be pretty safe too *laughs*) And they have bent over backwards to meet me at the times I'm avail. to see the puppy and coming BACK to pick her up (even though they live 3 hours away).
Ok, sorry about that long ramble...I think I'm just needing to justify in my mind over and over why it's ok to let them go and that they're going somewhere great

oooh, thats great. if i named puppies i don't think i would ever be able to let them go. a name is kinda like a personality (well, as far as puppy names go) and once you're hooked on the personality.....
but you aren't like a real breeder though right? are you going to have more puppies? of get your dogs fixed? too bad there isn't a contract for the puppies to be fixed at such and such age.
already now i am looking for a house with a 6 foot fenced in back yard because i would like a sight hound or two. that is a good requirement, i think. because like if there was no fence that just screams "tied to a tree all day" and we don't want that to happen. what if the other 2 puppies don't get adopted?
all 4 are adopted. Just that 2 of them are local and they were able to go on Wed. The other two are going tomorrow....their families are driving from Denver and Greeley which is a ways away from Colo Spgs. And no, I'm not a breeder. No way I have the time or space for it (or the patience I've found out lol). She was actually scheduled to get spayed back in June and as "luck" would have it, she went into labor the DAY BEFORE her vet appt...so part of it was a god sent b/c if we had taken her into the vet the next morning to get fixed, once they put her under and cut her open for the spay they would have found out she was preg. and it would have cost us a LOT more to have her fixed. So she's getting fixed in 2 weeks once they are gone and her milk is dried up.

Squirt was my favourite, and the runt, i would have loved to see him grow up...
It was so hard when they went- my favourite boy went first, too. The pup i have mostly chose me, too (Ok, so she was my favourite girl, but)- otherwise i probably would have kept Tiger (fave boy)
It is so quiet when they go! Good luck with the silence :D
