Mugen is a 7 month old Siberian Husky(well I believe he is mix amer. staffy too but he favors the husky) male and I have a few questions about him and also about Weight Trails that I wish to let him compete in.

First off right now or well the last time we took him to the vet which was a few weeks ago he weighed about 50-51 lbs and the vet said he'd get about 10-15 lbs heavier which I figured. But I was wondering if I were to get him a harness speacially made in Sept or Nov. (seeing as his birthday is in Jan. and he'll be about a year old) would he almost be to his max. size. (I ask because I wanted to start training him in the winter because its WAY too hot in the summer).
Also he is a medium-large breed of dog and I think someone told me large breeds reach full size at 2. If so that is ok I'll just wait until next winter no biggy.

But another thing, he is 7 months old and I know this may seem like an odd question but is he sexually mature (I'm not intending on breeding him especially while he is still a pup, but I was wondering because I was curious why he doesn't hike his leg yet like my other dog Dagger yet lol my dad calls him a girl dog and makes fun of him :( ) Anyways its a silly question, but still I was just wondering if maybe he is a late bloomer. I mean the dog can't even drink right I guess because I raised him from a 3 week old. Its quite funny but messy, puts his entire snout in the water and bites it.

if he's only 7 months old, he's definitely going to do growing. Male huskies tend to be bigger than females and my Tikaani is 10 months and still growing. Depending on his mix, he could potentially get as big as 90 lbs. When you talk about a harness are you referring to sleddog racing? Or maybe I just missed the jist of what you're competing in?

As for the lifting his leg part...he may never do it. My parents have a chesapeak bay retriever that still squats...he never learned to lift his leg and he's 9 yrs old now. It's better on his joints though now that he's older anyhow so I never worried about it.

I am curious...you said you weren't planning on breeding him as a pup, so are you intending on breeding him at all? I ask because if you are, I wonder why you're breeding a mixed dog, and one you don't even know about what the other mix is.

Well be believe he is mix Amer. Staffy but he looks nothing like one neither do his brothers, but I don't intend on breeding him I just didn't want people worrying that I was asking because I wanted to know when he was sexually mature. Thank you though for the info. He is getting so big but I don't think he'll get more than 70 lbs. at least I hope not lol if so though oh well.

Understood :)

As for the growth, still not sure what the harness is for, but if it's something that really depends on his size I would wait until he's at least over a year old, just in case he does get past 70 lbs.

oh oops lol forgot to tell you, I was wanting Mugen to compete and weight pull trials and get him a custom made harness, but I guess I should wait.

I would definitely work on conditioning him while you're waiting for him to finish growing.

yeah I'm going to get to work getting him used to things being behind him and letting him pull light weight with a regular dog harness, do you think that would ok?
