Anyone own smooth collies?

I Work with a smooth collie breeder (still learning the ropes!)
And I've got my own collie of hers that she lets me do junior showmanship with. This is Merlin.

He's a Sable Merle and white smooth collie.

They're beautiful, I don't have a smooth collie but I do have a Rough so I am a bit biased towards how lovely they are! They're fantastic dogs and so loving, good luck with the showing

I had a long nose regular female collie name Bridgett long ago. These are gorgeous dogs, love them. Mine was a barker as she was gifted to me, lived in Ohio with 3 small children and had to tie her to go Potty, she barked and barked till we found her a home before coming back to pa on a farm.

Very nice dog there. Your lucky into some super dogs.:)

I think smooth collies are much rarer than Roughs, who gained their popularity because of their very glamorous coats. Rough collies became so popular after the Lassie films that a lot have been overbred and can be a bit highly strung (I think mine may be one of these - love her anyway though!) This does mean that smooths tend to have retained a more even temperament and are still larger like the original colles would have been.

I think they're gorgeous and they're on my 'list' of dogs that I'd love to own one day - maybe Simba needs a boyfriend soon....

Cookygirl, this thread is about Collies as opposed to Border Collies so it is not the same thing. :)

the smooths are slighlty different in temperment to a ruff, bit more head strong.. i made one BIS when i judged recently a lovely tri color.
