You know Rachel when I think about it there were about four or five affie puppies there, must be that time of year or something. Wish I had thought to take some pics of them for you. Sorry.

Aww don't worry I'll get to see plenty of them at Crufts. I was pounced on by several adorable monkey-faced pups at the AHCW show a few weeks back...you're right there are quite a load around at the moment.
Still - love to see the hounds, no matter the breed! :)

I keep going back to look at how tall (or would it be how high?) the deerhound is, his back is higher than his person's knees. But in the first picture, the whippet is about even with her person's knees too. I'd like to pet the elkhound and the wolfhound, they both look so fluffy! I can't get over the Sloughi. Look at his coat, it looks so soft ... would that be considered a striped pattern? How does the Sloughi stay warm, there isn't much fur there. Does he need a jacket when he goes outdoors in winter? Thank you, Borzoi mad for these pictures that show me how different the hounds are from one another!

Hi again Elyse In the Uk we would call this sloughi a brindle, coat like velvet and yes he needs a warm coat for the cold and damp weather, just like the greyhound and the whippet.

Brindle, that's it. I knew there was a name other than stripes and I couldn't think of it. The other thing I noticed about the Sloughi and the whippet is how slender they are! (no meat on those bones as my grandmother used to say). It doesn't look like they have much body fat at all, they're so long and lean. I hadn't thought of it before, but maybe that is another reason they would wear a coat in messy weather. Being slender you'd need to give them another layer to hold in their body warmth. Didn't I read in your first thread about them that they are from the continent of Africa, though. So they might not have encountered cold winter weather, or had a reason to adapt to it over time.
That's all I have. I could ask questions and type comments about them for hours. they are beautiful with their velvety coats and sleekness.

The other name for Sloughis is the Arabian Greyhound they originate from Morocco in North Africa,
One of these day Elyse I can see you owning a sighthound.

Looks like you had a good day. Ive met the man from Sweden whos whippet won the class and enterered into Breed class to go through to Best in Show.
It was good to see the sighthounds...only wish TV would show more coverage.
