This is not about my Bearded Collies, but about a friend's Bichon. They are having problems with the common eye staining discoloring the white under the eyes and the snout down onto the mouth.

Anyone have a good product, or solution to this problem that I can pass along to them? Thanks.

I have the same problem with my cavalier.
We use Opcon-A Itching and Redness Reliever Eye Drops.
They are available at drug stores.

I don't know if you are in the UK or not but here we can get a product called "Pretty Eyes Lotion" by Shaws, which gently removed stains it is not expensive ad it costs £1.99 for a 100ml bottle, :) :)

Hi Anna

Yes chalk would work on a white dog, and I know the original post was a bout Bichons who are white, but if your dog has stainings and it is a different colour don't think chalk would be the answer hence my post of pretty eye which works on all breeds

Maltese are notorious for eye staining! There are a lot of products which can be purchased at most pet stores, however, not one has helped Sophie if I give her regular water, bottled or not. Her only solution was distilled water only! If she consumes plain water at any time --- here comes the eye stains! For her mouth I have found that baby wipes work well. Hope this helps.

musky hunter - I would love to try this product, however, Sophie has so many allergies! Wonder if anyone has given this to their pet with allergies. Sounds great! Thanks

I am certain I read in one of my catalogues a wipe pad at drsfostersmith.com that will clear up all stains on white dogs faces. I know as two vets put out this book with everything in it. I get alot of things from them that work!!!!!!!:D :D

My Bichon doesn't get staining very often but when she does I use eye envy for her. I have found though, that it is better to find the cause and fix the problem that way. Make sure that there are no allergies or infections causing it and that the dog isn't exposed to smoke. Also make sure the fur is kept away from the dogs eyes and that you keep the area clean. I only give my girl purified bottled or distilled water from stainless steel bowls and I don't give her any food or treats with added food coloring, that seems to help a lot. Although tear stain removers do work most of the time they are only a temporary solution and preventing the staining from happening in the first place is a much better option.
