:coolsmiley02: Hi, I am new to this site as of today, and I was wondering if any one out there can offer me any advise. I have a 5 month Cattle Dog Cross, he was purchased from our local dog shelter here in Noosa and 2 days after we got him home he started to scratch, we took him to the Vet he received a injection and tablets which helped for a bit, which we had to repeat again 2 weeks after, but out of pocket $480 he is chewing himself again. He is hot in the ears, red blotches between his legs and has raised sore which is getting worse as he drags his stomach along the carpet to scatch it. All he seems to do all day is bite himself. The Vet wants to do tests on him but at $200 each and 4 of them we cannot afford it. Does any one know of anything I can try? Thank you Sarah.

Hello Sarah & welocme to df. Did you take him back to the shelter's vet? or your own? They should have a 2 week health guarantee.
If you put up your concerns in the health forum you will get more advice. My 1st guess is that he's alergic to something. Does he have any fleas &/otr has he been given a spot on flea treatment. My Border Collie, many years ago used to get crusty sores from Sept - May each year, scratched constantly. I changed her diet to the most expensive ones, took her off beef. She had a couple of cortisone injections which worked for a couple of weeks. The vet gave me a peroxide solution to mix with water which worked on the sores but she would break out somewhere else.
After this happening for a few years I discovered she had a flea allergy. From then on I used Advantage every month in the warmer weather & she never had the problem again.

My Bailey had the cortisone injections too, which did help him for a while and he is free of fleas, we do use the Advantage flea product on him and we use our own Vet. I will take your advise and put the email in the Health section and see if that helps but thanks for your advise. Maybe it is seasonal, lets hope. Sarah. :)

Hi Sarah and http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q108/2dogmom_album/crittergraphics/welcomepawprints.gif
Sorry to hear about your pup's skin problems!
You may want to post a thread in the Dog Healthcare (http://www.dogforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=14) section, as this will make it more likely that members who can give you advice will see it.
Good luck and I hope your pup gets better!

Hi and Welcome to the Dog Forum. org. I am sorry your dog is having a problem.
Maybe try some dog food sensative to the skin. Many types of allgergies some dogs get, some never get any.? Maybe he is allergeric to cleaners used in the home, grass, but no grass here now? Could be what he is eating, are you feeding human scraps?
Do not bath the dog weekly, only if he rolled in something bad. He might need some oil extra than he makes naturally himself.? Like giving him a couple sardines packed in oil twice a week.
Read some on this link and see if you can figure out as vets cost so much and it might be something simple, but usually from fleas or food he eats.
