Hi Pat Know what you mean I am such a numpty when it comes to things like this. Its not the end of the wold tho' cause I can still access with my desktop, but just annoying that I can't with my Laptop. I deliberatley stayed with Windows XP , as I thought I'd wait till Vista had prooved itself.

Eunice, this has me stumped. About all I could find is that you are not the only one who is having login problems with AOlV9, but so far I have not found a solution. Let me please try to get the hard core geeks involved on this one.
When did you first try logging in using the laptop?

Hi Jean
Can't remember exactly when but must have been about five or siz weeks ago I first logged in and it was fine then the other day I went onthe laptop and discovered that I could not sign in . Every time I enteredmy user name andpassword it was not accepting it. I always leave in on keep me signed in.
Sorry to give you the trouble. I will wait and see what the expert "geeks" come up with.
On my desktop I am on AOL 9 so you have probably hit the nail on the head and that it is AoL V9 that is causing the problem. It is only this site and one other where I can't login all the rest are fine on the lappy.

Eunice no trouble at all - I just wish I had an answer myself. Can you give us the exact text of the message you are getting? Possibly even a screenshot? It might help in finding the problem.
The other thing you might do if you feel comfortable is to let us know which software the forums are using that will let you on vs not let you on from the laptop. If you cannot tell, and if you feel comfortable doign so, you can PM me with the forum URLs and we can figure that part out.

It is not a big problem as I can still get on with desktop, but it is annoying and puzzling.
Thanks again get back to you asap.

Status so far is that
clearing cookies does not solve the problem,
clicking "remember me" doesn't either,
it's not a matter of the space between "Borzoi" and "Mad,"
it is not specific to vbulletin,
and it is not the case that the username "Borzoi Mad" is associated with a different password.
We may be running out of ideas.

Don't think so Jean as I use the same one on both desktop and laptop. Sorry wish it had been that and it would have solved it.

Yes I'm listing it here in case anyone else has had the same problem so we know what we've tried.
Althought what I meant about associating a username with a password was that if you are using the same name ("Borzoi Mad") to log in elsewhere using a different password than you are using here, the software may be trying to force you to use the password for a different site.
Does that make sense?
Eunice,
I have aol 9.p and xp also. I had trouble signing on with the upgrade to IE 7 and the settings had to be changed. It did only run into trouble on certain sites. Do you have IE 7?

So to answer your question I don't have IE 7.
Sorry Jean I use the same name on one other site but I also use the same password.

Thanks for the clairification. The point is that since you are using the same username / password combination on another site and it is working shows that it cannot be that the software is associating a different password with that username.
As far as I know IE7 is bundled with Windows XP so you have it somewhere on your Laptop even if you are not using it.

Thank you both . If it is Internet explorer then yes I have it, but don't use it and No Carole no Apple.

I think we are getting closer to the problem. You may not be using IE7, but there may still be compatiblity problems between the IE7 settings and what the AOL browser does. I am trying to hunt down where the settings are that need to be changed.

Eunice perhaps if you could open Internet Explorer and find out which version you have (I assume it's 7 but I want to be sure) and also see if you can login using IE instead of aol.

Thanks, that means it is not an AOL issue.
Can you try this?
1. Launch Internet Explorer.
2. On the "Tools" menu, click "Internet Options."
3. On the "Privacy" tab, click "Advanced."
4. Click to select the "Override automatic cookie handling" check box, and then click to select the "Always allow session cookies" check box.
5. Click "OK," and then click "OK" again.
6. Close Explorer and then re-open it.
Then try logging in again.

Thanks Jean and EUREKA it worked. I am signerd in on the Lappy. So happy.
Is this something that I have inadvertantly changed in IE7 not knowing any better? If so my apologies for all the trouble you have gone to on my behalf. As I have already advised you I am not computer literate when it comes to the techie side,

Good grief. I've been a bit busy today and felt guilty about not reading your post until now. I was sure when I saw that you had posted again that this last suggestion hadn't worked either. http://www.geocities.com/mymixedbreeddog/smileys/oops/sneakout.gif
WHAT A RELIEF!
:banana::banana::banana::banana:
So it works now for both IE 7 and AOL?
By the way I'm sure you didn't inadvertantly change anything. The Windows default seems to be very high security.
