Hi i own a border collie (you can see him on my sig, page and avatar). He is a tri-colour male who suffers from epilepsy and hip dyplacia.
Anyway, i love border collies and think they are fantastic! They are amazingly clever, very very beautiful and i haven't met a nasty one yet! The famr dogs bark but thats because i am in their territory and in a way they have got a right to bark :p But anyway, who else has collies? Talk about them here:D

Hi
I used to have a beautiful border collie bitch. She was a fantastic intelligent dog. She was really wonderful when I had my daughter and she would sit beside her pram. She would also sit outside of the nursery door but she would often creep in and take up residence under the cot. She didn't guard Amanda she just wanted to be near her.
One day I was sitting with Amanda in the garden and I took my eye off her to read a book. Suddenly her pram turned up and amanda was hanging by her harness. I really thought our border collie had maybe knocked the pram over. The poor dog was beside herself. no harm done to Amanda - however the next day when we were in the garden Amanda decided that she would rock and rock her pram - she had turned it over herself.
Sadly Shandi (border collie) passed away some years ago but she was a wonderful character and I would hesitate recommending a border collie as a pet.

She sounded lovely :)
Often dogs do accidently get the blame. They are very intelligent, i agree:)

April was my 1st Border Collie. She died in February. Now I have Tilba, a 4 m/o pup. She's very people/child friendly where as April was cautious. I love the breed. I looked at other breeds before I found Tilba, but kept coming back to the Borders.

I grew up up with Border collies as my Grandparents have always had them. I quite agree with everything you have said about them.
Their last Collie was called Kim and lived til she was 13 years old.
Sadly she died last August. :(:sadsmiley::sadsmiley: And she is very sadly missed.
She NEVER snapped at anyone or anything!
She was beautiful and lived a happy life.
Unfortunatly my grandparents will not be getting another dog as my grandad says,
"No dog can ever replace Kim" :(:(:( **Crying!**

I don't have a BC, I have a rough collie but my uncle breeds working BCs in Devon and I love the breed. I often looked after a working sheepdog he had when I was a child called Smokey-Joe and he was a gorgeous dark blu/grey and white with a fantastic temperament (if a little nutty and energetic). My uncle is unfortunately a typical farmer and the dogs are more 'tools' to him than pets - the BCs he has now are nowhere near as nice as Joe was.
I'm working on OH to let me get one at some point, I desperately want to have a dog I can work in competitive agility or obedience, my rough is far too nervous for it and it looks like a BC will be the best for that!

I have to agree with everyone that BCs are a fantastic breed I have never met one that I didn't like. But I suppose I am bias as my family has had BCs as both working dogs and pets going back generations and my own dog is a BC.

I had Robbie who was a BC cross then Fly who was a BC bitch and the perfect pet dog, then Mist who was funny and independent and bossy and did tricks like a circus dog and I started to train her for search and rescue as I was in Mountain Rescue then, she broke my heart when she was poisonned at only 2 and a half, then I got Moss who I am training for sheep work, who is bright and active and obssessive and loyal and grumpy;and Pip came as a rescue and she is dizzy and pretty and loves children and too scared of her own shadow to be brilliant at anything but I am hoping she can do Pets As Therapy.
I adore borders but they can be awkward and difficult. I am going off on a tangent with another "kind of rescue" dog, still a sheep dog but a Pyrenean. He comes in 10 days time. He is not expected to live long but you never know...

I have two pure bread BCs and one that has some BC in him. I love the bread, I find them scary smart and they are so much fun. Maxie however was abused as a puppy and can/will bite. He's very aggressive on and off leash to stranger especially men. But the time he did bite a few years back it was a woman. Luckily it was very mind and her skin was not broken.
I use a halti on him and that gives me complete control of him on walks. He's such a loving dog though, really he wants to be friends with everyone. When guest come in are home he's totally fine. I guess he does not trust strangers. *sighs* He's good with kids though.

Ashenpaw is a full Border Collie who hails from working stock. He 'works' in a nontraditional Border job with me at the pet resort running the daycare sessions and temperament testing other dogs since he is such a predictable and tolerant boy. Ash has recently started being a referee at the session. If a couple of dogs get a little too rambunctious he herds them, if they don't knock it off he does a quick rush between them to break it up. ;) Once they get body checked by a Border Collie most of the dogs just stand there and stare before moving off. I love my suburban Border Collie!

I've had fun looking up April's & Tilba's heritage. I can trace April back to 1950 & they both have many dogs in common.
