Hi The reason why I ask this because there seems to be no size limits on Pic attachements for this forum (which must have a endless server limit) which can slow down when you are scrolling down a page full of images Iam not against pics in any way as they provide endless conversations ad lots of awws etc,etc I am on 1Mb Broadband but I still find this scrolling down a page with images on does slow the page down. Why is there no size limit with image attachments?

That's not much of a download size Bigboy - some images are more than that for just one image. I think there is a restriction on image size if the image is in the message itself - but if you insert an image (e.g. from photobucket or similar) then the image can be much bigger - so I don't know what the fix for you would be.
Of course I might be talking absolute tosh and got it all wrong, but that's what I understand.

Bigboy - good question. I think this is the reason for the limit to the number of attachments / images allowed in a single post. If there were no limit then conceivably a post with a lot of pictures would take forever to load.
I personally would like to see a size limit on pics because I don't have a huge monitor and because of my eyesight I prefer a coarse resolution. That would also help with the dowloading problem you're having.

:rolleyes:What Iam saying jake is say someone post 6 images in a post and each image is 500k or .5 of a Mb that's 6x500kb = 3Mb in my maths and theres no way you can even begin to scroll down the page till all 6 images have loaded, another point is am viewing this forum on a 28" wide screen Tv and a lot of images on here I have to scroll left to right/up and down to get it centered correctly. Prehaps some members could try as a test posting say 50kb or 100kb images. Modern computers can zoom to a bigger image. I too even on Tv internet can zoom in a smaller image at least 6 times to make it bigger. Making the file size smaller would infact make for quicker loading of the images and scrolling down a page would be qucker too :)

Could you pass this suggestion on to the technical guys who look after this forum?

Never heard of it. I take it you mean dial up internet? It's what everybody used to have before Broadband (high speed internet access) came along quite a few people are still on dial up access in the UK, don't know why though as Broadband is getting cheaper now to have set up, and has much more benifits than dial up can ever give :)

What the cost benefit of having your system Bigboy? Most broadband providers will give you a modem for free now.

User CP/Edit Options/Visible Post Elements Taerice while this is useful I don't want to disable the images. If a smaller file size limit was applied ( which isn't a big deal) users could still zoom in on their modern computers and I will be able also to zoom in my set up as well! Even Skunkstripe feels something should be done. Can you at least consider it? :)

Bigboy introduced me to this dog forum so I know the set top box problems already.
Click the User CP link then the Edit Options link:
http://dogforum.org/profile.php?do=editoptions
Alter options eg display 5 posts per webpage and select the Basic Text Box for posting messages. Less images per page.
Also, the Internet has online image editors that can compress the gif or jpg to a smaller filesize.
http://urlcut.com/quickpic2
Input image URL or browse the PC for an image.
Dog picture signature above:
http://dogforum.org/signaturepics/sigpic365_8.gif
Test this image, view the different compression image examples.
18546 size compressed to 12176 without any significant picture quality lost.
When images are imported from external websites rather than uploaded to this forum, they take longer to load. Some forums can offer height and width and left or middle or center or right alignment for images. A giant image can be made to look smaller but it's the original filesize that counts. Digital camera images could be edited, ie cropped to the best size rather than having empty space around a central theme. Image resolution may be a factor eg 72 dpi rather than 300 dpi or higher being used as a default.
Graphics programs can crop and resize images eg for 800x600 displays, a safe maximum depends on the window area of 700x400. This leads to a better maximum of about 600x300 and this could be centred for that display. Some forum columns limit such image displays so 400x200 seems OK. Then if necessary, add the larger image URL below should someone need to view this separately. The Netgem IPlayer keyboard Z lets you zoom in on a separately-displayed image. M lets you zoom out. The remote control won't let you do these actions. The Netgem IPlayer is connected to a scart to the TV. This screen size is 640x520.
http://urlcut.com/jennifersjpgs is my fullscreen Fantasy Art demo for the Netgem IPlayer yet it can be viewed on the PC using the F11 key for a larger screen height display and F11 to reset the normal display again. It's a click-a-pic slideshow demo. You see the thumbnails and select the first image till it loads. Continue to the last image and view another artist's gallery. These enhanced, edited, compressed images were meant to be set top box friendly. Paint Shop Pro can sharpen or brighten, add contrast and enhance the colours or selected areas to get a better look. The website HTML can therefore be viewed and edited by others to link images and the next slideshow webpage. They can load up the customised webpages and their large images to see how their slideshow works. Modify what can be improved to share with others.
The Netgem IPlayer can view Freeview, save a TV screen capture as an image eg to the USB memory pen drive or as an email image attachment. You upload using the FTP option. It's on your website and forums display the image only if the webhost permits direct links eg supanet and freeola ISPs do. Otherwise upload to some tripod or flickr album and for other image hosting sites remember the thumbnail image is preferred with a direct link to the full size version.

The Netgem IPlayer is an Internet browser so it uses either 56k speed or Broadband. Websites aren't always user-friendly, so it's good to see forum assistance and extra options and feedback being considered, but mostly it depends on individuals to remember that Internet set top boxes can't stay online for long if they have to load giant filesize images. Yahoo keeps on displaying its adverts and these take up memory space. Forums, too, offer PC users brilliant opportunities. Set top box users need to turn off their set top boxes regularly and empty the memory every now and then before the set top boxes crash and lose the message we try to type in. So please upgrade to a PC if possible.
