I am thinking of getting a collie and doing advanced training with it and poss agility for fun I allready have two cross malamute/huskys and they are great with any other dogs and I think the collie will help with there training we have access to lots of free space so walikng off the lead is easy.
I am not too fussed about papers etc I just want a good natured dog and a lot of breaders want silly money for the pups. To cap it all most are in Wales and Ilive in the easy yorkshire region.
anyone know of pups going at a realistic price near east yorks????

I am not really sure because I don't live in the UK. But shelters sometimes have young purebred dogs. My sister just adopted a purebred Border Collie from our local shelter the pup was only 8 weeks old. She also adopted a purebred Husky at 6 months. So sometimes you can find what your looking for at the shelter. Even an older purebred BC would have the drive and want to learn.

Most rescues have tons of border collies as people buy them without taking into account their highly strung tendencies and instincts. There is a fantastic Border Collie Rescue in Northamptonshire called Wiccaweys, if you google it it will come up.
They have loads of collies, including puppies that all need good homes and the people that run it know all about BCs and can help you find the right one.
I know of a rescue in wales that has a litter of BC pups at the moment too, Many Tears in South Wales.
Good Luck in your search!

We both work during the day and my wife always comes home for lunch and they have a good hour running round the garden but we always go for long walks at night around 5:30
A lot of shelters think this is wrong and will not give working people a collie.

Well it can't hurt to contact them and explain your situation. I know for a fact that some shelters will match a dog that can be left for a few hours with you.
If not, then I'm afraid you have to pay the price if you want a decent puppy from a breeder. That's just the way it is, anyone giving away a puppy cheaply or for free usually has some reason for wanting rid.

If you are going to get a border collie then you are making a FANTASTIC desicion!!!!! Although they need good training through puppy hood to become good dogs as they can change there ways in adult hood.
I have had experience from my grandparents as they have ALWAYS had collies.
I would advise you not to get a pedigree as they can be snappy - Non pedigrees have a better nature.
Chack your local dog shelter and also local websits ect.
Hope I helped.

Hi! I am training my BC in sheep work and my trainer has some georgeous puppies...they are for pets at the moment and I don't kow the price (I already have 2 collies so shouldn't even LOOK at these pups).
She is in north Bradford, if you are interested I can give you her number. They are small too.
A puppy will need attention during the day but if someone can spend time with them midday then they should be OK.
I went to Wiccaways and when I didn't take the first dog they offered then I didn't hear from them again. The Dogs Trust do their assessment and insist on a dog proof fence...even though we have a farm. Having said that, the assessor was lenient and let us off!!
An older collie dog is easy to find. The Free Ads usually have a couple of adverts every week. I tried 2 and there was nothing wrong with the dogs, house trained and collie ish but I was trying to fit them with my own dog and she is very dominant so needed the right dog to fit in.

I agree with Zoe that they are fantastic breeds but that was interesting about what she said about non pedigrees are better natured as Zak my bc pup is non pedigree from a farm with both working parents and hes got a lovely nature so far and so obedient and wants to please you all the time. He goes to obedience classes and Im going to do agility when hes older. Im from Wales and yes they are everywhere here. Good luck in finding one.
