:( I've just been 'told off' for commenting on a thread that was really old, but I commented on it because it appeared in the list of latest discussions. It didn't occur to me to check all the dates, does this happen a lot?

bunnyphone I'm sorry you see it as having been told off, it was not meant that way at all. :)

What happened was that someone had posted ahead of you with a question that revived a thread that was one and a half years old. That post brought up a topic that had not been mentioned in that thread so it was split off to a completely new thread.

I didn't want to delete your post, but as it did not address the new topic I couldn't very well move it out into the new thread either. And I couldn't PM you or email you to lt you know what had happened. So your post was left in the old thread with a reminder to all to please have a look at the dates before posting on a old thread. In general if a thread is old, it is better to start a new one rather than revive an old one. It can get confusing at times when these old threads appear to be new.

So in answer to your question, yes, every so often a very old thread will get revived and where possible we try to split off the newer posts into a new thread. And when a thread is closed, we usually state the reason why. In this case it was to draw attention to the fact that the thread is very old.

Again, the request was not directed at you but was intended as a general reminder.
I hope this makes sense and clears things up!

Aah, I see. I didn't realise anyone else had commented on it so I thought it had come up randomly. :o

No, sorry for the misunderstanding.
I just realized I had the option of contacting you by using the visitor messages too.
