View Full Version : Poms and barking?
Hey Do Poms bark too much? My daughter loves them and I was going to consider getting one sometime in my life but I dont know much about them. The pom next door barks all day and night and they use one of those electric collars on her and I feel like its abuse.. So I stayed away from buying one ,,but they are so adorable I cant help but love them

Our best friends have one and although I really like Jasper, he is a yappy little guy. Then again their owners do nothing to stop him. :( They also encourage him to jump on visitors, which I could do without. But he has a great personality, very playful. He just can't play as hard as my two, he seems to get tired easily.

I think a lot of little dogs yap a lot if you don't teach them not to. We've had mini dachshunds in our family for years, my gran currently has 2 but my god do they yap. She does nothing to stop them, the only correction they get is from me and my dad.
They're lovely dogs, and it tends to be when they get excited or want your attention. My dad calls it 'short syndrome', but I think its because unlike bigger dogs they feel they have to be vocal to get you to notice them. They're ok once they've got your undivided attention, but Fritz in particular clings to me like velcro when I'm there and won't even let me go to the bathroom without yapping and scratching the door!
Worrying thing is, if anything happens to my gran, I may get the dachies.....they'll drive me nuts but I do love them!!
No my Yorkie is the only yapper he has like a nervous condition he barks at lightning and other dogs and leaves blowing ha I usually hit the side of my bed and yell NO STOP BARKING and he knows what Im trying to say and he stops sometimes I put him in the kitchen until he stops .. it helps right away

Just about any breed dog can be a yapper if they aren't trained to chill out. :D My parents have two Poms. At their place the two of them are quite vocal. When they spent a week with my husband and I at our place we worked with them on shortening the noise. Got them to quiet down pretty good. Back at my folks they are a little better about it, but since they stopped reinforcing the 'three-bark organic door bell' that was only half trained in, they're back to being yappy again. After all, yelling 'STOP IT!' doesn't work. :D It's all about training.
