My Family just got a toy poodle that was given to us becouse th e lady could not care for her any more becouse she has no eyes and needs alot of care and attention.. I guess they chose us as we have 3 other dogs and our dogs are spoiled rotten lol

I would taker her to our vet and have her checked and ask him question but well they are closed on the weekends and i wanna do right by this lil girl as she is adorable.

Has anyone ever had a dog that does not have eyes and should we be putting oiment or anything on them?

I was worried about how her value of life would be but after watching her with my other dogs i can tell she is normal and just stays close to one of my other dogs to get around.. She has found the food dishes and water dishes on her own and when she feels a wall of chair or somethin she finds her way around with out any probs at all.

The person we got her from did not take the best care of her so I have spent hours just trying to get the tangles out of her fur but was honestly worried about if theye is anything to do for where her eyes use to be. I do not belive her lids are stitched closed or if they even do that.
and if i should be cleaning those out or somthin.

Thanks for you time

Gin

is it possible to ask the previous owner?

I can ask her though I do not think she is the type that would have taken her to a vet nor taken care of her.

This lil girl is adorable we have found she is more of a mans dog. My husband works nights and as soon as she heard his voice this morning she wanted him LOL

I will attempt to talk to the lady who owned her before us.. dang i hate to say owned her as I kinda feel that a dog picks us instead of us picking them LOL

Aw bless, she is a lucky girl to have found you :)

I don't know about the eyes or lack of them, that would certainly be one for the vets....

Just wanted to say about the blindness - to see her stumbling round will be more painful for you then it is for her - she doesn't have the emotions that are attached with having a health problem, so therefore it doesn't bother her - it's just the way things are....

My boy's blind - the only thing I would say with him is that he food guards a lot. He rely's on his sense of smell, so if he can smell his food he gets all edgy and silly. I feed him totally seperately to get around this, but it may be one to look out for?

In the meantime - best of luck to you all

Was she born without eyes or were they removed for some reason? My Grandma's old, old, old dog went blind and after a short time, he functioned just fine--but he did have eyes, so i have no idea if anything needs to be done or not.

My 11 year old golden started being scared to go into dark rooms about a year ago. We decided he could not see well in the dark, and our vet confirmed it. Nothing can be done. Also his depth perception is getting bad A leave can blow by him and he will jump back and yelp as tho he thought it was going to hit him (he has never been hit by us). He has his own room with full size bed in the front of the house. The two golden girls sleep with me (and truck driver hubby when he is home) and our room is at the back of the house. I just feel safter with Buck in front because he has such a bark he will scare the daylights out of anyone that comes into our yard. I may sure nothing is ever out of place in that room so that he never sees scarey things in the dark. There are things in the dark that were there in the light--and always there in the light. Nothing to be scared off

of course this does not apply to your dog---except things should never be left out of place where she can run into them.

Good luck with the new dog I'm sure she will be very happy with you looking after her and the other dogs to follow it takes someone special to take on a dog like that, let us know how she is getting on now and then .

After a few days she knows her way around the house like a pro even jumps up on the chair I always sit in without any prob at all. My Black lab/chow mix dog has kinda taken her on as his own he protects her and watches over her. It busts me up to watch him as she gets to far away from me or him he runs ahead of her and nudges her back with his nose And tonight he noticed her attempting to get up the steps and jumped up on the step right infront of her to show her to get up.. It is amazing how one pet will take over and protect another.

Here is a pic of the two of them and you can see how close they stay to each other.

Yup some dogs can be born without eyes. It can happen if you breed the wrong two dogs together. It also seems to be common in homozygous Aussies.

That is just so sweet. It is amazing how dogs understand things. When KayCee had her knee surgeries, Hunter 9her littermate brother) would lay beside her and lick her face as if to comfort her. It was so sweet to see.

That is how my beagle was last year when my sister had her knee surgery! She would go sit by her chair and stuff. It was sweet.

Those two look as if they have been together forever they are lovely and it says a lot about you as a person taking on such a big responsability, Well done and give both dogs a big hug for me.
