Help with tech stuff! Need avatar and sigpic!

hey...as a total technophobe...i feel its time for a new avatar and sig pic...can anyone help me??? please dont direct me to a thread which explains how to do it myself...ive tried and i cant and i end up shouting at the laptop :o!!! cheers, mermaid x

Hehehe - what's it worth? LOL. OK, you've twisted my arm. What's your actual problem? Is it designing your avatar? Is it the actually process of uploading it? Reducing the size of the picture?

Yes of course you can send me pictures. I can't upload them for you though as that has to be done through your account (I think). I'll ask Skunky about the practicalities when she comes on.

Or you could simply ask skunk to do the change (avatar and signature). I think that it'll be a lot easier that way as skunk has access to it via the modCP :)

Mermaid we actually have a thread going where memebr can request sigpics:

Lately I've been the only one making them but if someone else is talented (Jake? :D ) and willing to make them, they are free to join the sigpic factory.

I know you didn't ask for a tutorial but in case anyone else sees this and wants to try their hand at making their own, I wrote one a long time ago.

The important info in this thread is that the pixel dimensions cannot be greater than 500 x 100 and the file size has to be less than 19.5 kb. Also animations wont work.


We don't have a avatar request thread but we could certainly start one!
If you want a quick and easy avatar you can do it online:

Pixel size is limited to 120 x 120, file size is limited to 64 kb.
Animations will work with avatars so if you want to get fancy you can. :)

Mega is right about a mod being able to make an avatar or sigpic visible, but that is only if you've already uploaded it and for some reason it's not appearing.

So post what you want and someone will have a crack at it.
(I'd kind of like a new sigpic and avatar myself! :p)

Well getting the pics to your PC is the first step.
Usually there is software that comes with your camera and each camera has different software so I'm not sure how to help. I've seen Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition, Presto Page manager and Canon Image Window and they are all different.
If you post what you are using maybe someone can guide you through it.

Usually you can view your camera's picture folder (Start > My Computer > "Your camera name") double click on your camera and you should be able to open up a folder. Find your pictures and just drag them to the desktop. And viola!! you have your pictures :D

i have uploaded few pics! the one i really want for my avatar is ruby july 2008 002...i have tried to re-size it but i cant...i did go to that web site you suggested skunky and i re-sized it but when i tried t send it back to me i wouldnt???:confused:

Your work is done!
All you need to do now is head on over to that "request for sigpics' thread and post up your request. I posted the link to it earlier in this thread.
Do please copy and paste the "UBB code" (highlight what is in that long white box, then click "copy to clipboard" into your post. You may want to have two browser windows open, one to get the code for the pics you want and the other to compose your post.
After that someone who is good with some photo editing software can do the rest. :)
