Hi Guys,
We just got a new puppy... he'll be 7 weeks old tomorow.
We were told his mother was a wolf/samoyed mix and his father was siberian husky.
I know he's going to be a big dog, but i'm wondering just how big? I am a littler nervous with the mother being part wolf... (I'm actually not sure if she was indeed part wolf as we don't have wolves here.... we do have coyotes but they are very few and far between).
I'm also wondering what else I can expect from this mix. I hear huskies are typically more difficult to train than some other breeds.
He is very mild mannered and quiet now, he does like to chew on your hand when he's worked up or hyper but he loves being petted and loves giving kisses. I hope this only increases as I really want him to be an affectionate dog.
Thanks in advance for your answers!

That makes a good mix if u are a positive trainer and owner.?
Lets see some photos please, love to look at them and welcome to the dog forum, enjoy sweetie............:D :D I am the grandma on this forum........lol
Realistically, the breeding could indicate that the dog could potentially be a little more challenging than some. I don't know anything about wolves sorry, but we do know that he is likely to be a large and physically strong dog. Huskies can be independent minded, energetic, and some people believe difficult to exercise off-lead. The good news is that as your pup is so young you now have the perfect opportunity to work really hard on giving him the best possible start in life which is so vital for every pet dog, and especially those which may look intimidating to other people. Concentrate on using these next few weeks to socialise him like mad - this is a one off opportunity as he is right now like a little sponge. Get as many people as possible to handle him, including men, children, strangers, vets etc. Introduce him to cars, bikes, skateboards, wheelchairs etc. Take him as many different places as possible to experience life in general. As soon as your vet will allow sign him up for a puppy class, and have him meet as many other puppies and friendly adult dogs as you can arrange.
Would love to see a photo as I imagine he will be very hansome.

Hi Guys,
That is basically what I am doing, Giving him as much opportunity as possible to be around other people and animals and giving him as much love as possible.
Right now.... he is just a big sook, my cousin lives next door and we spent most of the night tonight over there with him and he just curled up beside me on the couch and slept as if there wasn't even anyone there. I don't see any behaviours now that make me think he's going to cause problems. He loves to give kisses and hugs and loves to cuddle in bed as a treat. We've been putting him in the crate at night and he's been sleeping right through until morning.
Now.... for the pics :).

Thanks!
Should we start a pool on how big everyone thinks he'll get? :)
We've had him for 4 days and I can notice a difference in his size..... not much mind you but... he's slightly bigger.
He is absolutely gorgeous. And sounds like you are doing everything right but do keep up the socialisation as friendly bold puppies can change quite a bit as they grow up - of course this shouldn't happen if you carry on the way you are going. Really good to hear that he is already getting a change of scene and new people at your cousin's place.
Also, well done for giving this serious consideration now. Too many people get a cute little pup and forget that they have a responsibility to shape the adult dog he must become. It is of course unthinkable that such a cute cuddly bundle of fluff could ever grow up and bite a child or become dog aggressive - and yet it does happen. This means we must all take training and socialisation very seriously, and doubly so if your dog will be a large and potentially more challenging breed type. Since you have obviously given this some thought at the right stage I am sure he will be just fine.
Size? Hmm, looks like he is a pretty good size for 7 weeks so GSD size possibly?
He's definitely a gorgeous dog. We have a wolf/husky mix, Tikaani is half timberwolf/half husky. I will say that they *are* trainable...but it takes a LOT more patience than a normal dog. It's not that they're not bright, actually, huskies are one of the brightest dogs you can own, but they are VERY independant and strong willed so he will test your patience as often as possible. Since your dog is, at most (according to the breeding you listed above), only a quarter wolf, I really don't believe you have anything to worry about in that area, he's considered "low-content" wolf. It's the husky that's going to give you the headache ;)
My biggest concern at this point though would be socialization. I'm wondering why they adopted out the litter before 8 weeks. Before 7 weeks is awfully young to be taken from a litter, mostly because of the socialization factor. So, I would do your best to have him spending a lot of time around other dogs once he's fully vaccinated. If you're going to have him around other dogs that you're not familiar with before he's vaccinated be VERY careful.

Thanks for your posts guys!.
He goes in sept 11 to get his first vac needles. He is/will get lots of human socialization.... we spent the whole day at my fiancee's cottage with tonnes of people around and they were all mauling him and fussing over him and he just loves it.... gives everyone kisses. He even slept on my fiancee's mom like a little baby for almost an hour. We just got home now and he's completely exhausted.... passed out on the floor.
There was a guy there that said he has a husky that was 250lbs..... to which i replied... well if he gets that big.... i'll shoot him ;) hahaha. I've never heard of any dog that's 250lbs... maybe like a grossly overweight st bernard or something (or maybe it is common... and i just don't know any better lol).
I'm hoping he'll be betwee 50-70lb's full grown. We live in a townhouse with a small backyard right now (planning to get a house in the next few years).... so he pretty much HAS to be an indoor dog.
As far as training goes.... I've been focusing on getting him to walk with me on the leash and going outside to pee.... he's catching on pretty well to the leash already... and.... not so much with the pee'ing in the house but.... i'm sure it'll come after a few months.... he's still pretty young.
I feel so bad that he was taken away from his mother so early.... I honestly have no idea why he was since we got him from a lady that got him from her neighbor that got him from the mother. We are giving him as much love and attention as we can and he seems to be adjusting really well.... he does still suck a bit in his sleep but i give him my thumb for a minute and he stops. Maybe we should be giving him a bit of milk or something?
Thanks again for your replies!

He's adorable!!!!May I steal him?:wubsmiley:
Oh,he's almost as cute as Dills was as a pup.Almost.;)
He looks like he has beagle markings on his face.Is that just me?Probably.Ah well!Haha.
What's his name?
Don't worry about the milk, he is big enough to be weaned now. I think the concern is more about his social development rather than physical. So glad to hear he is meeting lots of new people, that is really great. If any of your friends or family have friendly dogs that you KNOW are fully vaccinated and healthy you could always invite them over to meet the new pup.

Awe, he is adorable. My friend has a 14 year old husky wolf X who is the best behaved dog i have ever met. They never use a leash with her, i remember once we went swimming and they left the dog at the front not tied up or anything, and after swimming we would come out and she would just be lying there. Every little kid loved her because she would just lie there and they would pat her. She was a very good dog. Im sure yours will be two.
