Hi

I do pest control for a living with a Hawk so you can imagine how many fresh Wild rabbits he gets.
So this leaves me with plenty of Rabbit meat .
I have two Patterdale terriers so i guess it's quite natural food for them.

But the question is that with the odd bit of Mince and maybe Pheasant meat is it OK to feed with dry food and should the rabbit be raw and just the loins or as i read somewhere just chuck the whole rabbit for them (not sure on that idea as they chase enough as it is)

But the main enquiry is can i mix and match raw food with dried?

Your opinions will be greatly recieved:)

Hi
I am a BARF feeder to my five dogs. Feeding raw means the dogs get a whole range of added vits and mins that would be cooked out of the meat. As for feeding the whole rabbit , you bet, they will love it, bones, eyes, hearts lungs etc it's all good stuff. In the wild they would eat it anyway. The only thing I would say with rabbit is that it is very high in protein so be sure to feed some veg also, if you are still feeding bought dog food and only supplimenting it should be fine. Otherwise you will need to balance it.

I wish you were near me , I would buy the stuff off you.

Thanks.

But the bones in the rabbits are quite splintered. Surely a whole carcass could cause trouble.
I usually cut off the legs and head for the bird as it sharpens it's beak as it picks on the bones.

Just a thought:)

Rabbit bones are soft enough to eat. You can still feed the dry food although you don't have to. Just feed them at different sittings not at the same time. The main thing to worry about with wild rabbit is tapeworm.

Like with hawks (good to see another falconer on the forum aswell :D ) the bone marrow is essential to the diet, the spine is good for cleaning teeth aswell.
