Expensive vets bills

Hi All

I am sick of having to pay expensive vets bills for my 2 golden retrievers Stish and Ross.

My last one was £200 for a check up and worming!!!

Are their any alternatives?

You can ask for the prescriptions and then purchase your drugs online - there are plenty of sites that do it, just google it for the most popular.

Apart from that I guess there's not a lot you can do - apart from the drugs the only other cost is the vets time and if you're happy with them, IMO they are worth holding on to - good vets are like rocking horse poo near me - none existent!!

I got VPI pet insurance...It helps some.

i pay just under £10 a month under a scheme at the local vet, all check ups and worming etc is free!

maybe u should ask the vet what is wrong and ask for medicen and give it to them and see if they will feel better. maybe that will work it may it may not.

Please beware of purchasing medication online. I’ve heard too many horror stories of odd lots, expired batches and generic packaging. Also, know that if your product is shipped from another country it may very well not be the same formula than if you went down to your vets and picked it up.

I live in a small town of population 9400 and our vet here in this little town is GREAT. He is only 43 and been here 11 years. Six years ago he built a brand new state of the art hospital (he had purchased the old practice from the a vet who had been here 7 years and moved to Austalia and the building was at least WWII era). He put in 2 heated operating tables, seperate isolaution, in house lab, wonderful boarding facilitess, x ray and ulrasound. grooming room, etc, etc. Real BIG CITY.

But the thing is he is known for saving dogs that can not be saved and he has clients from counties on both sides of us. He had to bring in another vet because he was working 8-7 Mom thru Friday, 8-noon on Saturday and was on call even when off and often had to go in for emergencies....like the night a rattle snake bit our golden Buck in the face. He saved the top arson sniffing dog in the state a couple of years ago and now the handler brings him over 50 miles to use my vet. Says he will use no other. He also saved my mechanis' standard poodle and he says he would use our vet for his personal doctor if he could.

So you would think his fees would be sky high. Wrong. His fees are about 1/2 to 3/4 what they pay in cities. He operated on my golden girl's knee (luxzting patella) 5 years ago, the other knee a year later. Between the two it was only a little over $1000. Today, due to horrendous taxes, electric bill, and insurance, he now has to charge $750 per knee for the full procedure and that is just half OR LESS than charged by most vets. This is just some examples. I know many others.

Also, if you have been a steady client for some time, you do not have to pay at time of visit. And for large bills, you can take months to pay...as long as you do keep up making payments, be a few dollars at a time or a large amount. He has always told me to never worry about what I owed, he wasn't worried. The most was $2300 for my Hunter's 8 day stay when he came down with AIHA following his heart worm preventative injection, Proheart6, 2 1/2 years ago. He died on the 8th day.
