Hi,
Nahzi's doing a bit better now that we're switching her food over. But now I have a question about treats....
It's been difficult to find one that doesn't have beef, corn, or wheat in them. I did find one, but she didn't like it. She spent about 20 minutes playing with it, so that was nice, but never ate it, heh. Yesterday I went into this petshop close by and the lady there brought out samples of a bunch of "safe" treats for her... and she didn't care for any of them.
I know she loves peanut butter! She also really likes sweet things (one of her old treats was sweet- for a dog at least)..... so my question is: Anyone have and good treats I could give her?
Can she have fruit? Like dehydrated banana or apple (no sugar of course)? Or carrots? And what do I get her to chew on? Since rawhides are beef... since we took that away from her she's stopped itching so much!
Thanks ahead of time! Always love everyone's advice/tips
-Tori

Canidae makes good healthy treats. You may want to look into that. I give my dog raw peices of carrot, peanut butter, apple slices, eggs. I also give my dog Marrobone by Pedigree, not sure how good it is for the dog though.
I also buy holistic bones made with peanut butter, liver, all kinds. Most pet stores should have them.

You can feed a dog vegetables, Jake loves carrots - i cut them up and put them in his Kong. He also likes cabbage! He eats apple cores, pieces of orange, lettuce (doesn't like mint much though)
A good non-allergic treat is Burns Fish Skins or Fish Cubs (don't know if you can get it in the US?)

I think anyone who knows me knows that I won't buy any petfood that is tested on animals
I really recommend you look at the following link before making a decision

Well I gave Zircon a banana once and he tried to roll on it.
I tried giving him a carrot once and ended up with shredded carrot on the floor.
I bought some of those healthy Canidae biscuits and niether one of my dogs would eat them.
THey both enjoy the Nutro Lamb and Rice treats though.

Thats so funny! I was just about to ask if dogs can eat dried papya. I was eating some one day and dtropped a piece on the floor. Oakley came along and lapped it up like it was a piece of stake and looked for more! Is it ok for her to have it?

Don't see why not - unless its preserved with sodium benzoate, or sulphur dioxide - fresh fruit is best - or organic dried

Thanks for the tips and shared stories... interesting. LOL. It's just been hard finding something she can eat. I resorted to a plain salt free rice cake the first night and she shredded it like styrofoam and looked at me like, "Hey, mom! That was fun! Gimme another!"... Took awhile to vaccum rice cake up.
I will look at the sites recommended. I did find a puppy treat from BLUE, but I don't think it's agreeing with her. Might try the carrots or some fruit until I find something.

I thought of something else--dried chicken strips. My dogs LOVE them!

Oh Rice Cakes - if you put cream cheese on them and slice strawberries on the top of the cheese they are gorgeous!
Same goes for bagels!
It's absolutely no problem giving your dog fruit (and vegetables for that matter).
My pekeginese loves apples, oranges and for some reason lettuce. The vet says you can't overfeed them fresh, raw fruit and vegetables. I have also read that in a couple of dog books as well.
So go nuts and give your dog fruit for a snack!

Whilst I ws preparing supper tonight, Jake got 1 1/2 tomatoes, lettuce, a carrot and he woofed the lot.
Careful with dried though, due to the preservatives.
