Hi, my 9 year old black lab female desperately needs to lose weight, she's even showing signs of difficulty getting up in the hind leg/back area. I am looking for advice on the best food for this. One guy's site said as few grains as possible, and high protein. If true, which foods has anyone used that worked well? Thanks so much.

There are also reduced fat, calorie foods for senior dogs. Like us humans though, the best way to lose weight is less food, more exercise.

You might try mixing in some pumpkin with hsi food. It is low in calories, dogs usually like it, and it does not give them a runny stool.
Good luck!

How about chicken and rice? They love it and the rice will leave him feeling fuller though not putting on more pounds! Not sure where you live but In England there's a brand I use called James Wellbeloved. It's hypoallergenic, really good food. My dog has two mug fulls in the morning before her main walk (a good hour all off lead) and then one heaped mug in the evening before her second walk (30-40 mins, off lead again). She's a gorgeous weight.

Good luck - and no snacking!
