out of curiosity what do you use as hand signals for sit, lay down, stay and come? just want a general idea of what different people do:)

Gosh, it's hard to describe hand signals!
Sit- arm lowered 45 degrees, palm down
Down- Palm up, raise arm from 45 degrees
Stay- Flash dog my palm
Come- Bring arm across my chest

Sit - like Barbara Woodhouse ;) palm up, arm out then raise at 45° so palm meets shoulder
Down - palm down in a pushing movement
Stay - show my palm
Come - arms outstretched like a big hug.

But they're kind of irrelevant since Oscar lost his sight so I have to rely on voice commands :(

Its hard to explain what I use for sit.

For down I use pretty much what everyone is saying palm down and move the hand down.

Stay, same as everyone, flat out in front, like stop.

Come is I guess a come motion with my hand as if you were telling a person to come.

wait, is moving the hand in front of the dogs face.

I use the same hand movements as ChessieLvr except for come I say come and pat my pocket that I have her treats in she soon got the hang of it and the treats just got fewer now I hardly have to use them.

I use the same ones that Chessielvr posted except for stand. I don't have stand on cue. For come I pat my legs with both hands and clap.

I use most the same as everyone else except for sit. for sit i make my hand into a fist (fingers curled under, not up facing you as if you were actually going to hit someone). And for come, I usually just say good bye and my velcro dogs come running.

Wow those graphics are great! I use the same signals as ChessieLvr, except for Come I pat my thigh. If I'm right beside her when I want her to stay, I put my palm to her nose. Most of the time I don't need to use signals. I don't know why. Maybe Zoe just knows the words or just knows what I want. The only command I always use a signal for is Stay.

Chessie, that's pretty cool. Where did you find that?

I also use the same hand signals as were taught to me in dog training school. For 'stand' I put my open hand in front of my dog's face when she's sitting of course, say "Stand" and let her follow my hand, then stop her with my hand when she gets directly in front of me. This command is given when my dog is sitting at 'heel' at my side.

For sit I use my index finger and poin to the floor.
Down is "push" my palm towards the floor.
Stay is hold my palm upright towards the dog.
come is about what I would do for a human if I wanted them to 'hurry up".
