A lady at a dog show recommended to me to use woolite:eek: sounds weird but that is what she uses on on all her show dogs(Boxers). I have to add that all were just awesome and such a soft shiny coat. So what do you think about that? and what do you use on your dogs?

never heard of this shampoo i use a shampoo called neutrale,it has no added ingrediants like colourents or perfumes,it has a low ph value and puts a great shine on your dog also you dont need to use alot of it,i buy mine from a vets but its made a LEO ANIMAL HEALTH,most of your dog breeders use very good shampoos but sometimes you can only find them if you go to big dog shows, hope this helps

I use Smart Groom by Wahl - Super Whitening Shampoo. It smells sooooooo good and really does a lot of good for Zoe's fur. I bought a 375mL bottle when I first rescued Zoe and I still have some left. Think I'll stick to it :D My sis uses baby shampoo for Bear, and that works well.

I personally would not use woolite on my dog... it's laundry detergent so isn't made to be used on skin.
I use Cloud Nine. I think it smells wonderful (like ceder and mint) as well; the smell is also light, lasts a while, and isn't powerful... just a touch of scent.

I use either tea tree oil shampoo (helps with fleas) or baby shampoo. Nothing fancy or expensive, just the cheap stuff from the supermarket.

WOAH! NEVER USE LAUNDRY STUFF ON A DOG! Tell the lady that. there is a coat shiner shampoo for dog, any nice shampoo for dogs......for dogs, not enev people shampoo. sorry, that scared me.....LAUNDRY DETERGENT! WHAT WAS THAT LADY THINKING! watch the dogs come down with some never-heard-of skin disease!

I hear that baby shampoo is made out of some bad stuff, all baby shampoo's and tear-free hair products. just use a good brand all purpose dog shampoo:D

Sergeants skip flea and tick shampoo with oatmeal.... it's a pretty cheap brand that really works on my shelties, you can purchase it at wal-mart:D

Yeah I'm not too picky with my shampoos. As long as it's made for dogs, smells good, and isn't too expensive, I'll get it. I get Top Paw Natural Oatmeal shampoo; the oatmeal is great as a moisturizer. At least, I think so. :) Dogs shouldn't be bathed very often under normal conditions anyway, so I don't see the reason in being too picky about the shampoo. Great fur and skin is mostly from the diet anyway. Shampoo just removes the dirt (under normal circumstances of course).

Natural Oatmeal here. Unless of course "Stinky" tried to chase a skunk again, then it is the skunk smell remover shampoo.
Stay AWAY from Harz Flea and Tick!

Just bought this for Jake he's had one bath with it. He swims at the water park most days and his coat is getting better - his bald patches are growing in.

Make sure that whatever you use doesn't wash off your flea stuff. I use Advantage on my dogs, so the shampoo has to be detergent free. I'm not sure how it gets them clean without soap, but they look, feel, and smell pretty good after a bath, so it must work. Anybody know how detergent free shampoo works?

Nu Sal-T or Nova Pearls, Oxy Med cream rinse
I use these and they are exceptional for dry, itchy skin.

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE tea tree oil shampoo! It's so wonderful for the dog's skin and coat, and helps keep the insects at bay. I always go out looking for the stuff that doesn't have colorings and crap added in (I got this one pink conditioner for them once, and it turned my bath tub PINK!! >X.x;<
As far as not washing off flea treatment - When we were in FL, I had to use Advantix on Eevee. But since I only bathed her once a month, I would just wait until it was time to treat her again, bathe her that night, and then wake up and put on the flea drops. Worked for me lol.
For the record, Advantage flea treatment is NOT waterproof. I used to help sell it. Frontline is though. Unfortunately that didn't work for us in the area of FL we were in. >@_@<

when we first got Jack his fur wasn't in really good shape as it had only recently grown back, when he raced he was kept on cold hard flooring and ended up with no fur on his back end as well as a bad leg injury and tail injury when he came into dogstrust, he had bad flakey skin which isn't as bad now as it was as we have bathed him but i noticed it returned quite badly as we went to bath him a few weeks back i used some medicated Dog shampoo this time which seems to have helped, first time round i used a dog flea shampoo of the same brand as the medicated one but should it return again i will try a mild baby shampoo and see how that goes but fingers crossed it goes now.
does anyone have any other suggestions on how to get rid of bad dandruff?

I use Johnsons baby shampoo since I can clean all the pets excluding the birds with it, and the fact that our dogs have extremely sensitive skin.

When hounds come in from the track with bad dandruff, we just start them on 1000mg fish oil capsules (one capsule, daily), and it usually improves within two weeks. Remember, too, that black dogs show dandruff worst of all, and IIRC, Jack is black.
Dandruff can sometimes be an indication of a food allergy or intolerance, too, so that's something to consider.
I wouldn't use Woolite on a dog. Woolite was designed for processed wool fibers, and while it is gentle with most fabrics, it isn't designed for a dog's skin.
We use the Adams line of dog shampoos on our Greys, and it seems to do really well with their skin.

The vet should know the the pH levels in dogs is very different from that of humans. I guess baby shampoo would be better than regular human shampoo but I can't say that I think your vet gave you good advice on this one.:(
